Obscure L.P.'s .....

Post by Ranking BC »

I really enjoy obscure artists and LPs and was wondering what hidden gems you all have discovered??? The Lambert Douglas post got me thinking...

Here is one of my picks: Ricky Grant - I Love Jah Rastafari (nice sweater on the cover, too)

Any input?

How about Well Pleased & Satisified - Give Thanks and Praise. That is a wild cover, too.

Not my favorite, but an enjoyable album.

OK, here are some obscure ones..

Browsing through the E's..

Earl Cunningham - John Tom (Time 1)
Errol Scorcher - Rastafire: A Channel One Experience (Ballistic)
Eek A Mouse - Bubble Up Yu Hip (Thompson Sound)
Ernie Ranglin - Mr. Ranglin With Soul (RCA Victor)
Echo Minott - Showcase with Sly & Robbie (Jam Can)
Earl Zero - In The Right Way (Student)
Barry Brown - Right Now (Time 1)

Dilliner - Badder Than Them (A & M) one of the strangest albums in my collection. Wicked riddims but backing choir vocals by 'The Children Of Sondes Place School under the direction of Judy Hilton"! The album cover has gold-foil look to it.

Lloydie & The Lowbites - Too Hot To Handle (Wild Flower)
Johnny Clarke - I Am Come Again (Black Music)

And lastly, a really odd one..
Charles Ross - Reggae Combo (Ace of Clubs) 1970

Obscure 7"? Well I'd have to say this one:
Panko Dread - Fisherman. An incredibly good tune from around 1984. Can't remember the label, anyone heard of this guy?

Ranking BC: Love that cover & the LP.
Far Far Away is amazing!!!

Big Krawl: Hahaaa, does have a wild cover, I liked that LP.

jj: Never heard, but has to be good.

Ernie: Obscurities for sure...I only have 2 of those!!!

I have found a few in my travels (NOT EPAY) ;)
Correct me if these are common:
Sons Of Jah - Bankrupt Morality (Natty Congo)
Josie Wales - Ganja Pipe Is Harmless (Live & Learn)
Live & Learn Dub (Live & Learn)
Rockers International Chapter 3 (Overheat)
I Roy - Dread Baldhead (Klik)
Revolutionaries - Outlaw Dub (Trojan)
Teddy Brown - Bad Man Wagon (Top Ranking)

How about this one from Bunny Lie Lie? I just cannot get into his vocals on this...

I like John Tom by Earl Cunningham, there are a handful of killer tracks on that LP, which 2 of them were released on a Hitbound 10".

MAtthew:
Sons of jah-Bankrupt Morality
Josey Wales - ganja Pipe is harmless AKA Outlaw
Revolutionaries - Outlaw dub
...Have all been repressed in the last ten years

I too have always wondered about the General Stone (Gorgon LP &Tony Shabazz Prod.)....But I highly recommend the Osbert Madoo - You wanna turn me on (Sonic Sounds 1982 LP) also a Tony Shabazz Prod...pure niceness!

Earl Cunningham's "John Tom" (Time One LP) mixes with Leroy Sibbles' "Meanwhile" (Attic LP) and some tunes on Simple Simons' "Bad MAn" (Kingdom LP) as well. All of them are very nice Paul "JAh Screw" Love & "Ranking" Joe JAckson Productions/co-productions ("Meanwhile" produced by LEroy Sibbles).

my favorite obscure LP:
Undivided roots - The Original Undivided (Must Dance LP)
Super Hard Unique "Original" Instrumentals!!!!
Adam "Bom" E_Tone
TUFF TONE REX (RECORDS)
