Only one Black Uhuru track? Tough one, but I'd go with "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" followed closely by "African Love" from a King Jammy dubplate I have (I mean the vocal version, not the dub, although that's good too). Then "Sinsemilla" (I knew I couldn't limit myself to one track).

I'm no good at these "desert-island" questions.

Favourite Black Uhuru albums would include Sinsemilla, Red & Chill Out. I really liked Anthem when it was released and got the original & remixed versions and played them 'till they melted

My most played single track would be "Wood For My Fire" (and Too Much Iron in the Fire Trinity & Black Uhuru).


(I have nice memories of meeting Duckie Simpson & Sandra "Puma" Jones in a hotel lobby in Dublin 1986, signed my copy of the "Catch A Fire" book along with Sky Juice).

Red stood out for me.

Also have nice memories meeting Duckie, Puma, Sly and Robbie in Kahului, Maui a week or two before the American release of Anthem. Local dj was playing my copy of original album when Sly showed up with the American remix. After about 10 minutes he returned asking if the dj could play the 'new' one. Did have them autograph the original album cover, though I unloaded all my vinyl not too much later.

I just received my second copy of Sensimilla(original was lost many years ago). This along with Red are my favorites. Michael Rose has to be my favorite Reggae singer. Is anyone better? Current favorite track Sistren off Red. I love the way Robbies bass follows Roses vocals. The active bass lines on these albums really set them apart for me. Its a nice change from the simpler bass lines on most stuff. I love simple dub bass lines but Uhuru is a nice change of pace.Now that I just listened to Endurance it may be my fave track............

I love Michael Rose era, but check them with Don Carlos singing lead vocals. Some tracks are obviously radio-friendly but they play strongg roots music anyway.

i have to agree with all of you...and Javier of course don carlos is a great vocalist.....I guess black uhuru is one the best band ever...always worked with the finest singers like don carlos, junior reid, michael rose and last but not least of course Puma Jones (r.i.p.)

I love that recording Goldfinger. Listen to it everytime I feel for some Black Uhuru. Would love to have seen the video footage also.
