hello everybody,
i know a discussion like this has been posted hundred of time but i am looking for some reggae on vinyl to mould my vinyl collection (about 500pcs) so i looking for some suggestion from you, massive...i dislike reggay so much as i love real authentic dark dread roots reggae, strictly roots & culture...here's some examples of great records from my favourite reggae producers...
BUNNY LEE - johnny clarke & barry brown, sings roots & culture (the dark roots hosted by bunny is the best)
LINVAL THOMPSON - various artist, b.brown, s.dread, j.osbourne (most vocal tunes to scientist meets space invaders)
HENRY JUNJO LAWS - hugh mundell, mundell (and generally all the darkest stuff played by roots radics that have been dubbed by scientist on greensleeves & more)
the list could go on for more but i wish someone can take time to advise me some good LP that i really should not miss...forward thanks !!!
i hate reggay !!

Go here:

Keep hitting the 'reload' button until you've got all, or at least most, of the results displayed by the wonderful 'random artwork' thing...

Me too! I hate reggay, raygay, reggie and reggey. Raggae isn't too bad though
Just kidding with you volcan, but can you be a bit more specific in defining "reggay" so we know what kind of recommendations to avoid?
A list of the top 100 JA albums and top 100 JA compilations was collected over on the Blood & Fire board. Here is a [link](http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk/db/viewto ... 100+albums).
I've found it to be an extremely crucial resource.

to each their own but i highly disagree with that statement, the early reggae is as nice as the later stuff
i love the skinhead era as much as the rockers, roots and steppers era

Yes but that's a bit ignored by media and labels so it's also ignored by the public though as good as the later releases, same thing for rocksteady and to a certain extent for ska.Ites wrote:to each their own but i highly disagree with that statement, the early reggae is as nice as the later stuff

I think this is all about the major/minor chords (again)

Re: i hate reggay !!
yes there are lots of major chords tunes in the late 60s/early 70s but not only. Maybe it's because it's not as deep as roots with no big bass and with lights pop drums, basically because it sounds light.
I must agree it took me more time to appreciate early reggae than roots or rocksteady (which are mainly minor chords) but i now love it. I guess your ears must get used to the specific sound of skinhead reggae but once it's done, you can't get rid of it, you love it and need more tunes

It's too easy to set up camp and say "I don't like this artist" or "I don't like that sound."
But it's always worth giving stuff two or three listens before allowing your mind to make itself up. Sometimes, the result is surprising.
I try to never follow fashion. Better I think to be ready to like what you like, not just what 'they' like.
