I used to live in Pollockshields & Govanhill 10 years ago, I remember the alcohol ban on the streets.. No one said it would work but it did!! I got fined 25 quid for having an open can of beer in me pocket!!
So maybe I got nothing to worry about eh?

Criss Damage that is a serious point you raised. Because a dance is a ganja smoking event, specially a roots dance. Most people smoke erb in a dance in London anyway regardless what policy is in place. People will soon be complying tho, so yes it will kill off the vibes.

Yes I,

We've had a smoking ban in place in Canada for a few years, as mentioned in an earlier post. I find that it has killed the spliff smoking in clubs, but it hasn't really affected the live concert scene - it still seems to be somewhat tolerated by police/venue-owners for live acts, if you can get it past the security searches.

But for me, the ban has really increased the appeal of the underground roots-party scene, where a man can burn a ting right in front of the speaker boxes. I don't like to separate my herb from my music.

ez.

I saw the reality of the smoking ban for the first time at our gig on the 9th. The venue has a garden, all the people spent almost all evening listening to the dj's in the garden! Luckily, they came in to watch the band. About half way through the set most disappeared again, I thought they didn't like us, but when they reappeared five minutes later I realised they had gone for a 'fag break'!

Might have to stick to open air gigs and festivals from now on!

I do like a tobacco free atmosphere, but hate walking past a row of shops and offices now, there are always people standing outside smoking!

I don't smoke tobacco, but a likkle herb with the music has always been a medicine I've enjoyed taking. So I did struggle a little during my longest set at the Fawcett Inn. I started looking at the records and wondering if there was enough run time on it for me to run to the garden and light my spliff.

I didn't risk it as, although some 12 inchers are long enough to allow the selecta a toke break, there's too much risk I'd be out in the smoking garden and get chatting with someone only to forget what I was supposed to be doing!

So does that mean coffee shops will all close, Lion? And will it also mean the end of being able to buy herb over the counter in Holland?

Aaaargh - surely not the end of Coffee Shop culture? Why don't they just ban tobacco (the number one killer drug - bigger than all others put together, including alcohol!) and free up the weed? (The one that kills no one - unless they are shot by a policeman or criminal).
