I also took a very young MightyZ to see Alvin Stardust!

Excellent stuff chaps!! I do love a bit of honesty. Really am fed up with reading "rock stars" who when asked what was the 1st album you bought reply "Sgt. Pepper's..". No, it wasn't you little liar. It was "The wheels of the bus go round and round."
By the way, mine was a Benny Hill album!! Sadly my collection has gone downhill from that point!!

You may be amused to learn I saw Slade supported by.......Thin Lizzy!! What a gig that was. Dave Hill had a broken leg so was playing in a wheelchair!! Just checked and that was 1972!

Alvin! I am distrubed to realise I know that he started his musical career as Shane Fenton!! That's worrying.

Yes, I realised you were trying to hide that particular dark secret so I thought I'd out you!

My first record purchase was the very respectable Alice Copper and School's Out on 7inch. Not bad really. However, my first LP was Garry Glitter's rather good 'Rock and Roll' LP. At least I thought it was good at the time. I'd be interested to hear it again!

Mine first single was Mary Hopkins and "Those Were The Days"???!!! Definitely did irrepairable damage to me. Mind you I think it was the 2nd record that was released on the Apple label so may be worth a few bob. And, of course, it was No.1 in 1968!! Although I expect my folks got 50p for it at the local car boot sale!

You may be amused to learn that my mate played me "Glitter" a couple of weeks ago. Mind you, he does live in Pompey so doesn't know any better!!

Don't do it. That stuff is definitely something that should have be left as a memory. It was absolutely pony. Not how I remember it at all.

First LP's - you mentioned Slade - my first LP purchase was Slayed by Slade.

I've heard that again recently and I'm pretty chuffed with that as 'my first purchase' - my second one was 'Shear Heart Attack by Queen, although that could have been third - somewhere amongst my first few purchases, Alvin Stardust rears his ugly head once again!

You may not believe this, but I did see the good Captain at what must have been one of his very last gigs. (Btter check on that! Brighton Dome I think.) Guess what? I didn't get it!!! Too young and stupid! The horror, the horror.

"Slade Alive" was one of maybe my 2nd album after Benny Hill. My Pompey mate played me that the other day as well. It's excellent.

That reminds me I recently bought a Greenslade album I used to love and it's totally unlistenable! "Journey To The Centre Of The Earth" is another!! (td)

I still live in Pompey (well Cosham - it is close enough) - if you are able to get to the Fawcett inn on 13th September, leggorocker and I are doing dj Sets together with The MightyZ All Stars doing a live dub set - check it out for a great night in a friendly atmosphere!

Leggo is spot on with Mary Hopkins - she did marry Tony Visconti Bowie's producer and is credited on the Low album with backing vocals for Sound and Vision under the name Mary Visconti (I haven't seen this album cover for at least 20 years, but leggo will vouch for the fact that I have a ridiculously good memory for stuff like that!).
