They think I am crazy, friends come to my house and see piles of cds (1 300), nothing wrong with that, they have a lot of cds too, but from different types of music, not only one. My girlfriend can't take it anymore, but she has no other choice. My mom just got myself into vinyl!!!!!!!

I dont think my family minds as much as my neighbor does when i have the window open, chalice blazing and tunes blasting...
It always reminds me of that line
"smoke it and me pass it through the window and mi give it to my next door neighbor"

I face a situation where 99% of my friends,work-mates,all my family[excluding my 6 year old son]hate reggae! Here in Australia it's not a popular thing, some people don't even know what reggae is!Incredible, how ignorant our society is in this modern age!!!

I must be the lucky one, my family / friends are all ok re my obsession of reggae, some even show some interest.
i just have one neighbour some 5 houses down who sometimes complains about the bass.
The only hassle i get is when snr management spots the brown packages being left out by the postman every other day.
Is it an age thing , the older i get , the more i want to play me tunes.

Re: What does your family/friends think about your reggae love?
My bothers both love it, collect it and play it.
My parents like it more than they know, especially Ska/Rocksteady.
My eldest two children, grown up, love it and dance to it.
My 14 year old daughter says she hates it, but then even though she is into what she thinks is punk music, she won't listen to my punk records simply because it isn't 'cool' to like anything your parents like. I'm convinced she can't grow up not liking reggae, it's in her genes.
My 10 year old daughter and 12 year old son ask me to turn it up when they go to bed as they say the dub beat helps them sleep!
My two grandchildren, 1 year old and 5 years dance to the riddim.
My lovely wife just rolls here eyes at the cost and size of my vinyl collection - but she loves to wind up her waist to the dubbing bass.
My neighbours one side can't hear it, because my room is so far away from them and the other neighbour is a church, and Jah we know, loves reggae.
The windows in my room rattle to the riddim, so I must get them sorted as it annoys me!
The girl who comes in to do my accounts (book keeping) she loves it, and always asks me to play it if it isn't on when she comes to do her thing. She says it helps her relax and concentrate on all those terrible numbers!
My local policeman comes originally from Jamaica, he loves it too!
Me? Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae - I love it more than I can describe!

Re: What does your family/friends think about your reggae love?
I converted most of my friends to it years ago - so I am ok there!
My wife loves it, my youngest son plays keyboards in my Dub band, my eldest son is ok with it and particularly likes stuff like Night Nurse by Gregory Isaacs.
So I guess I'm ok!

PS Backyard movements - you should move to Melbourne, my Aussie friends tell me that is the Reggae capital of Australia. Also, have you checked OzReggae.com? You might find a few more like minded Australians there!

Some of my friends like it, some of them don't. So I am sort of OK here.
My wife loves it (otherwise I would not have married her - just kidding), especially al the nice vocal tunes from the golden roots era.

Re: What does your family/friends think about your reggae love?
My wife pokes fun at my reggae, especially any dub with heavy vocal reverb & echo. She imitates it in a fun manner though, and makes lighthearted comments on the fashions of the 70s/80’s roots era. I must admit myself that some LP covers can be quite entertaining… the amateur snapshots, dress codes, the misspellings, etc. From time to time however, I can find her humming along to Don Carlos, or randomly blurting out “Now look at that!” from Max Romeo’s “Fire Fe The Vatican”
And in her defense, I do poke fun right back at her R&B music, which I find the modern stuff to be rather juvenile.

As a reluctant Caucasian businessman, I have always been questioned about my obsession with reggae and Rastsafari.
My Thai wife digs it and so does my 14 1/2 year old daughter.
Spreading about some cd's keeps the fire burning and the flames are getting hotter and hotter.
Roots and dub lover since 1976.

Re: What does your family/friends think about your reggae love?
Being a Peruvian guy living in New York, had always been asked for my reggae/rasta obsession. The other night went to a big dance in Jamaica, Queens, and the bouncer asked me, do you know where you going?, thinking that I was at the wrong place!
