Dark, Dirty, Raw Reggae Recommendations

Post by Drella »

I'm looking to get into more reggae, but there's so much out there, I don't know where to start and I don't know what's good and what's not.

I'm not completely new to reggae; artists I'm into already are Dillinger, Big Youth, Prince Far I, King Tubby, Augustus Pablo. I'm really into the darker, dirtier sort of dub and toasters.

My favourite album so far is Dillinger's Talkin' Blues. I'm really into the music he toasts(?) over on this album compared to his others; it has a bassier, dirtier sound. Other albums I'm into are Prince Far I's Psalms For I and Big Youth's Screaming Target, for the same reasons.

What I'm asking for is some recommendations of albums and/or artists that fit the styles I have described. I'm looking for dub, dancehall, whatever.. anything.

Thanks :)

Bullwackies productions are pretty dark and gritty. he did produce in new york city and the music has a urban feel. Pablo gad's "hard times" LP is rightly wicked and raw

Check out productions by King Culture. He has the same vibe as Bullwackie going on. Serious and menacing. Prophetic. Brimstone and fire type of roots.
