Confusion with Barry Brown (Mafia & Fluxy Reggae Heights) track names

Post by Selector J »

I have yet another mission for the human-roots-encyclopedias of the world:

I downloaded 'Mafia and Fluxy presents Barry Brown, Reggae Heights' from emusic.com and it seems to me that the track names are wrong for some of the songs. Some are obvious M&F variations of classic Barry Brown songs.

For example, track 10, 'Selah,' is a version of 'Give Thanks & Praises' but if you listen to track 6 entitled 'Give Thanks' its clearly a variation of 'Big Pollution.'

Here is a link to the 30 second samples so you can hear for yourself:
[Mafia and Fluxy Presents Barry Brown](http://www.emusic.com/album/Barry-Brown ... 98615.html)

I'm *assuming* these track names are mistakes and am wondering if anyone could verify the actual track listing?

Also, does anyone know if this occurs on the actual CD/LP? Or has emusic mixed up the track names?

Thanks for the help!

here the track listing cd.

1. Can't Live Like This ; 2. A Helping Hand ; 3. Step It Up ; 4. Jah Jah Children ; 5. Party Night ; 6. Give Thanks ; 7. Jah Love ; 8. Youthman ; 9. True Love ; 10. Selah ; 11. Dub Up Pollution ; 12. Jah Jah Dub ; 13. Can't Dub Like This ; 14. A Helping Dub ; 15. Dub It Up ; 16. Selah In Dub ; 17. Youthman In Dub ; 18. Pollution

It's normal to change names of the song see UK lp/Ja lp/USA lp.

Maffia & Fluxy relicks the rydims under the orginal songs of Barry Brown.
The same way Sly & Robbie did ina the '80.
Update to the sound of now.

Thanks for the response Lion!

I don't think I made myself clear, though.

I realize M&F will change the names of the updated songs *but* the songs listed on [emusic.com](http://www.emusic.com/album/Barry-Brown ... 98615.html) seem mixed up (cue The Gladiators;)). So I think emusic has their stuff wrong, and I'm curious as to whether the actual CD/LP has the same track name mix-up (Mix-Up!)?

Here is a blow by blow of what I'm thinking for the emusic.com track names:

#1 *Can't Live Like This* is correct
#2 *A Helping Hand* is mislabelled and is actually *Selah*
#3 *Step It Up* is correct
#4 *Jah Jah Children* is mislabelled and may be *True Love*(?)
#5 *Party Night* is mislabelled and is actually *A Helping Hand*
#6 *Give Thanks* is mislabelled and is actually *Pollution*
#7 *Jah Love* is actually *Jah Jah Children*
#8 *Youthman* is actually *Jah Love*
#9 *true Love* is actually *Youthman*
#10 *Selah* is actually *Give Thanks*
#11 *Dub Up Pollution* is actually *True Love*(?)
#12 *Jah Jah Dub* is correct
#13 *Can't Dub Like This* is correct
#14 *A Helping Dub* is correct
#15 *Dub It Up* is correct
#16 *Selah In Dub* is correct
#17 *Youthman In Dub* is correct
#18 *Pollution* is actually *Dub Up Pollution*

What do the reggae-ologists think?

Thanks again,

If i see the track listing of the cd and yours it's the same.

Mix up is from the lp/cd release that can happend.

This isn't all that unusual... see the CD issue of "Africa Must Be Free by 1983 + Dub" in which the names given to the dubs are in the wrong order. It's annoying, but not unheard of for these mix-ups to happen.

I have this disc and it is mis-labelled. Funny thing is when you put it on Realplayer the correct names pop up.

Selector J your guesses of the correct names were dead-on except:

4. Party Time

Tracks 2 and 16 are actually called:
Fittest of the Fittest and Fittest Dub (which you have called Selah but it is the same song)

You are correct that 11 is True Love

Hope this helps.
