I'm tempted to say "in the bin", but that's just the vinyl madman in me!

I bought a couple of second hand camera flight cases, made from aluminum, these fit a few hundred per box, are lockable and can be stacked. The look may not please the missus though.

I have also seen chests of drawers - like old apothecary drawers - made to exactly fit CDs, in fact I have one! Look nice enough to please the wife, and also keeps the dust away.

Leggo,
I do have some bins, but it might just be the goofy in me, but I like to see all of them lined up and pull them out at random and think, "Oh yeah, I remember why I bought this one..."

Do you remember where you picked yours up and do they have an online shop, I'm in New York. I'm getting pretty close to building/making a media center myself, the cheap ones LOOK cheap and the really nice handcrafted ones are really expensive.

Thanks,
Chris

You are absolutely right, and the cheap stuff don't just look nasty, it tends to self-destruct very quickly!

If you have any ability to make stuff, then that's the best thing to do. Make, or have made, bespoke storage - it will always do the job better than shop bought stuff. A friend did all his AV furniture in MDF himself, making units for the TV and DVD player, wall shelf for the record deck and amp, a row of stout shelving for the LPs, and some cute little shelves with slide out drawers for the CDs and MDs and it all looks great. It was made to measure for his lounge. Perhaps that's why he won't move now?

The flight cases I use won't do the job of displaying your CDs, they are just a great way to store and carry them. I store them out of site (only the vinyl gets displayed!). I got mine secondhand from a photographer friend and just converted them by ripping out all the foam and putting two thin hardboard dividers to make three lines of CDs. They just seem to fit perfectly into the space - they are 18 x 13 x 6 inches and really tough. But each one at this size will only hold 90 CDS. They are fairly expensive new but are always turning up in want ads.

This was actually what I was asking about.

I think I'm going to end up making something myself, I've made all my office furniture, desk, bench, bookcases, so I have the tools and a few skills, it's just the time I don't have, but even if I buy some nice wood, it will still be less expensive than the high end ones and much better quality than the low end ones.

Thanks for the help,
Chris

Wish you could make mine too Chris! I desperately need to get a large amount of vinyl off the floor before it becomes impossible to actually move in here!

I think you could easily do that judging by the success of the guy that this thread originally linked to.
