Great thread! I busted out Billy Boyo "One Spliff a Day" on a Ganja mix I made for a friend who hasn't heard much reggae and he was blown away. Billy has such a smooth flow and the lyrics are too cool. I will defiately check out the stuff you guys are reccomending.

Imo the best young voice ever was Dennis Brown.
George Nooks aka Prince Mohhamed i beleve is one of the smoothest singers ever, right up to today his new stuff to the old.

yoo all the replies, didn't tought about early Dennis Brown!! its been hard to find Boyo's one spliff a day, still i played it and got hooked up again with White Mice, i can't help but recommend this tracks
both the versions and the originals, can't decide which ones are greater:
step by step (version is mindblowing)
roots music
it's a shame
try a thing
youth of today
i said no (version)

here's a bit of background for the powerful White Mice from the reissue label comments:

"Born in 1970, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Allan Crichton aka White Mice is a graduate of three sound systems - Sugar Minott’s Youthman Promotion, Jammy’s Hi Power, and his hometown Ticka Muzik. His first break came at Sun Splash in 1985, when he and Little Kirk were called on stage to perform with Tenor Saw. Recording at King Jammy’s and Channel One studios, with Junior Delgado at the controls, over next the few years Mice let off a series of records amongst the very deadliest of digital reggae - nearly all on his brother Blemo’s Intelitec imprint, out of Miami."

HEY check out this! :
related to the whole reggae kids genre or earlier youth singing reggae, this is a compilation out there on a recommended label that's released everything from soul made by kids in the Jacksons 5 vein that is probably what influenced all this reggae kids at the time, as it happened with earlier rocksteady and earlier ska that was influenced pretty hard by the soul of the 60's on america... pretty good and damn enjoyable compilation here's the link and the tracklist:

http://www.numerogroup.com/catalog_detail.php?uid=00305#

Trust Your Child Part 1 - Patrizia & Jimmy
I'm Not Ready For Love - Promise
Here's Some Dances - Eight Minutes
One is Enough For One - Jack & the Mods
Don't Leave Me Mama - Little Murray & the Manti...
You Are My Dream (School ... - 3 Simmons
Jersey Slide Part 1 - 3 Stars
Now That School Is Though - Cindy & the Playmates
Right On - Man Child Singers
Sweet Pea - Altyrone Deno Brown
Yellow Ribbon - Atons
If You're Looking For Lov... - Triads
Can't Let You Break My He... - Quantrells
2009 Cherry Soul Sound - Jr. & His Soulettes
Little Girl - Michael Washington
Time - Otis the 3rd
Time After Time - Step By Step

here's the review by the label:

"You know Michael, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Jackie, but what about Altyrone Deno Brown, Michael Washington, or Little Murray & the Mantics?

Home Schooled, the 16th record in Numero’s library of the lost, looks at the unknown side of the early 70s kid soul revolution. Beyond the Osmonds, the Five Stairsteps, and the Brighter Side of Darkness lay hundreds of aspiring children (or parents) bent on becoming the next Michael. Numero has selected seventeen of our favorites. A detailed and photo stuffed booklet breaks down the history of the phenomena, while the disc straddles the line between historical artifact and wild mix tape."
