Yeah that's the point, Leggo, selling the stuff you dont even listen too (except for some special reason: historical chune...) is a good first step to reconsider your passion for the sound & message, not for the object itself... My point of view at least.

what would be interresting to get opinions is to give us some examples of records you're considering to leave : collectors will have the same album on several labels, is that your case ? Or maybe you're talking about a type of music (or a type of reggae) which is not your taste of the day ?...

Thanx for all reply.

To be as clear as possible, I'll let go:

1) All the reissue LPs
2) Some double copies I have (for instance, UK and Jam press)
2) Some stuffs which are not my taste. Some very current stuffs and some rarer as Original Rockers "String" (Negus Roots), Delgado "Effort" (DEB), Congo Ashanty Roy "Sign Of The Star" (Pre), Ethiopians "Slave Call" (Third World), ect...

Last, I'm not thinking about selling all records, but I'm more into downsizing from 1200 discs to 8/900. Just keeping 700 would be perfect, but too hard, at least for the first aptempt...

Moreover as it has been said you may find any interest on these LP's later and regret not to have them anymore
(plus, knowing you're a Niney "fan" I can't imagine you getting rid of Slave Call whitch imo isn't fantastic but deserve its place in a Niney collection...).**

I fully understand your point about the Slave Call, but it's not my taste even if I'm a big Niney fan. Of course taste do change...

I don't see the point keeping this LP as I don't spin it and moreover someone may be far more happy than I to have it.

Same thing for instrumental reggae. I really love B Lee production, but I'm thinking about leting go the instrumental Lps, such as McCook "Hot Lava" and Mitoo "Showcase".

A reggae collection is like a herd of antelope... occasionally the old, sick, and injured will get picked-off by some hungry lions. In the end, this actually makes the herd stronger and healthier. It's nature's way.

Moral of the story: Sell the bottom 5-10% of your collection, and use the money for a few select killer records. It's what I have done with my CD collection, and have never looked back. I think it has made the collection more solid.

tingjunkie, you write down exactly what I have in mind. When you have a certain amount of music, it's useless to keep the one you don't play.

BTW I don't understand all the fuss on this Ethioians LP. I will spin it later and see if my point of view changes... Certainly a question of taste.
