roots rock reggae documentary , soundtrack?

Post by fireball »

Wondering if anyone has knowledge of a sondtrack to this beats of the heart movie. While it has some classics in it some songs don't seem to be anywhere. I'm thinking the michael manley campaign song that has the lyrics heavy manners but is not prince i. also inner circle has a song which seem to be part of the live footage with all night till daylight/ love is a drug. lyrics "i found myself, i found myseeellff another girl who won't let me down, who won't mess around" also three songs at randy's music store one is mr cop by gregory isaacs but the others i don't have a clue on. I know thats alot of questions but i've had a hard time tracking them, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I remember watching the Roots Rock Reggae documentary on TV in 1975 or 76 (whichever was election year in JA). I recorded the soundtrack on to cassette tape which I lost a couple of years ago.

Is the documentary now available again?

Also, I seem to remember some black and white footage in the documentary from the early to mid 60s. It was a ska number - may have been the Maytals - and I think the lyrics were something like "In the beginning I was the King, King of Kings Lord of Lords....." Anyone know the tune please?

i love this thread! carlos i don't know this live at the sombreros doc but it sounds good. the one thing about RRR is almost every song in it sounds better than the studio version. sorry but no i don't have that version of "mr music play on", dave
