Tappa Zukie
Hi there!
I need some advice - which Tappa's album to buy: Dub'em Zukie, Tapper Roots or Peace in the Ghetto. I can't afford all three:( I have In dub, MPLA and Man ah Warrior already...

I kind of like Tapper Roots. Peace In The Ghetto is also quite good. Don't pick the dub album though since it isn't original dub recordings but new dubmixes they claim to be vintage material.

escape from hell has a few good tunes imo.. Not essential.. but I'm glad I have it.. The repress I had heard a few years ago though was very noisy..

Re: Tappa Zukie
Avoid all "Jamaican Recordings" releases. (ie Dub 'Em Zukie) Its someone taking old tracks and "remixing" dubs to mediocre effect with over-digitized effects, etc.
They're really kind of disappointing, even if they would run the riddim without any effects it would be better than putting them through the modern effects they use.

I think escape from hell is a very nice dub-album, and definitely worth a listen...

Algoriddim, is it like that with all Jamaican recordings releases ?? Are there also albums worth buying, or is it best to really avoid them ?? Any other opinions ??

Re: Tappa Zukie
I like quite a few of the tracks on the Jamaican Recordings releases although I agree with Algoriddim that there are some bad ones.
At least many of them have been remixed from the master tapes and since Bunny Lee owns them I have no problem if he wants to do that. The annoying thing for me is the sleeve notes. "A long lost dub" or "lost until now" is the code for it never ever existed in that form.
Cheers

Re: Tappa Zukie
I guess I'm taking a purist stance. Some of the tracks are OK in a modernist perspective, but I really don't appreciate them mucking around with the master tapes and passing it off as "long lost" recordings. If the person doing the mixing was good enough that they could make it sound like Tubby, Perry, Scientist or one of the other old school wizards, then cool! But these classic sounding recordings don't sound right with modern digital effects done half a$$.
