i don't know where you're living but you should know that you actually have access to books for free...

I presume you mean in libraries?

The books there are free only in the same way as records played on the radio are free.

The end 'user' isn't paying directly, but is paying indirectly through taxes or advertising as the radio station has to pay to play the tunes and the library has to buy the books.

I download all the music I listen to. I haven't bought music for months. But I am 16 years old and have very little money.

The ability to download music has given me the freedom to explore genres I'd never dream of looking for in a shop. Most of the music I download is very rare and expensive; stuff that generally isn't in average record shops (at least not ones near me). Using the internet I can find out about different artists very easily. I can then simply download one or two songs, and if I like it I will download the whole album. Now I listen to stuff that, when I used to buy all of my music, had never even heard of.

Sure the economy loses out, but just a little bit. Has no-one seen that episode of South Park?! Instead of Kanye West buying that $50million house he'll have to buy that $49million house. It really makes very little difference. They'll still be extremely rich, and I'll be a little less skint. And sure I'd love to support the good artists around at the moment, but I'm sure they'll do fine without me. I still LISTEN to their music don't I? If downloading music doesn't help artists out financially, it definitely helps more people to hear their music. For example: since I stopped buying music and started download more, my iTunes library has increased by at least 10GB; and my knowledge of music has increased GREATLY.

I'm starting to think that age may affect the way we understand this issue.I work and only can afford like one cd for month.Is terrible to find that the cd is bad.Downloading give me the chance of knowing what i'm going for.The elders buy vinyls cheap and have where to play it.In my island there no good store.Every cd 12$ or more.I save with the downloads.Most of the time the vinyl lovers know what they buy or have hear of.

Music made by humble people for humble people must be available for everybody as medicine is in some countries where social welfare service still exist. As we mutualize risks by using taxes to provide a good welfare service, same thing should happen naturally for music, people paying what they can, receiving what they need (i'm not speaking about an real organization but about a tolerance for downloads in some cases).

The one to blame is the wealthy man never buying any single CD cause it's him who could feed the artist and so allow the artist to record and spread his music. The student without money or the man living in an underdevelopped country is for sure not to blame, music is not as vital as food but is still a real need and help to face life, especially for needy people.
