They WILL NOT run at the same time.

One has disabled the other!

Sometimes, with a little help from Windoze, both will disable each other :(

its the hardware that disables it i believe, also there'd be no much point in allowing people to become confused and use the lower powered vga slot

Hardware disabling? Really? Surely it's a driver thing?

I imagine its a bios thing, which is the software part of the hardware if you get my drift? it controls the hardware. Most bios's will auto disable however some need manual disabling of onboard graphics. This is different when it comes to SLI modes where two graphics cards run together to increase power.
Though i have heard of people having to disable them in windows, i havent come accross it myself, most computers i build have additional graphics

Yep, you are right, many times this is done in BIOS

But as BIOS = Basic Input/Output System then it's a software thing! :D

Discussions like this make me so glad I went over to Apple Mac!

It is a software thing, yes, but a slightly unusual piece of software to explain to people, which is why i phrased it like i did..
Its software hardcoded into memory, software; but not like the software which is editable on hard drives. Ever need any pc questions answered Leggo, feel free to ask, i have studied them quite a bit

Thanks James. I know them very well as I used to build my own. But nowadays I am 100% Mac so I don't need to fiddle any more. Except in one office where I do some work where they have a PC that needs a good kicking from time to time! And even the boss there is so impressed with my MacBook Pro that he went out and bought one for himself.

Once you go Mac you never go back!

I feel a bit for the chap who opened this thread - between you all I think you have confused him making this all seem extra complicated. I will try to simplify and summarise the important things that have been said.

To DonDigital - you have a graphics card with one output so you can only use one screen. Your other port (as has been pointed out amongst the general confusion) is for your onboard graphics - they cannot work together - end of story.

If you do have a twin output graphics card it is relatively easy to set up by going to the display properties.
