I looked into buying one when I heard of these, but they are very expensive - I can't remember exactly, but they were something like £30 000 I think!
I have had some vinyl cut by a place that uses one - and the quality is good. Although, I understand that there is a certain skill in getting the cut right. vinyl Carvers, the place I used seem to have got it right. There was an error in one pressing, so I emailed them and they sent a perfect replacement out within a few days.

Ok that's a better price than I saw - perhaps they are coming down in price (30K may have been dollars also!).
Seems like a good thing to have - if you can afford it!

Yeah would be good fun
i wondered what the legalities were of copying vinyls that you own, say a £100 vinyl that you would like a copy of which may cost £10 to do if you own it. Would mean you can save the original in good condition, dunno if this would break copyrights if you own the orig?

How would you make a good copy? Wouldn't you need a master? Otherwise you're just cutting from a recording and you might as well use minidisc (gives very near vinyl sound, better than CD)

True, but then i prefer playing out on vinyl; would prefer a copy of a vinyl on a vinyl then on a mini, dont like laptop djs much :/

I take even my most precious 12 inch vinyls to play out. I have an Upsetter Disco Bum in my bag for Thursday that cost as much as an old car! But what the hell! I buy them to play them and playing them to an audience is my biggest musical thrill.
I agree, I don't like the idea off CDs at a dance let alone Pod-Jocking!

hehe yeah, laptops and cds and all that seems a bit unreal, having to stick on a synth to recreate record noise and stuff.
I take mine too but as i often play before the band and near the front everyone jumps about and dances so much that people sometimes fall into the keyboards, decks and stuff.. least the plastic sleeves keep em clean
