Okay, here is my latest installation of questions as I dive deeper into this incredible sound...I find myself in a roots whirlwind, & I couldn't get out if I wanted to, which I don't. I am completely blown away & fascinated by what I am experiencing.
Are the 12" extended versions considered dub? Or are extended versions and dub completely different?
It seems, by what I've been hearing, that the producer would find a band to lay down the tracks for the singer...the producer would then use the music tracks to create dub/extended versions for sound systems and for the 12" records...does this sound like I've got it right? How much input did the singer have into the sounds?
Once again, thanks for your answers, but I suspect that asking questions here is like asking an engineer to describe the latest in engineering developments...
Which leads me to ask this last question (for now):
Why do electricians have trouble meditating?
Because they experience resistance (Ohmmmm!!)

i love hearing the dj's voice come in and the levels on the 'riddim' change up after the main vocal part of the tune is done.

Re: 12"
An extended version is what the title says. Usually it means that it is a vocal/deejay song followed by a dub-version (same song, not separate). It is also quite common however that a vocal cut is followed by a deejay version (and no dub). There are even rare songs that have entirely different sets. Gregorys Slow Down The Pace features a dub first and the vocal after if I remember correctly.Ben wrote:Are the 12" extended versions considered dub? Hey Ben,Ben wrote:Cool, thanks for the replies! Sure, I am very particular about my reggae...I got into reggae through Bob Marley & the Wailers ... I'm very partial to the 70s era stuff. I am not particularly fond of modern reggae...
The Gladiators are my favorite of what I've heard right now, and I'd love to come across some of their extended tunes. .... Okay, enough for now, but it's nice to ramble about this wonderful music to people who like it too.
We certainly have the same taste, for sure. Anyway, regarding some Gladiators Extended Versions, I'm sending you a PM .... check your In-Box.
Peace.
