Seminal dub release 1973-1983

Forgive me for being such a nerd but would anyone anyone suggest 10 seminal dub releases from the aboved period which give a feel for the evolution of the genre. I mean evolution in the technical sense and more....

PS would be interested to hear suggestions beyond blackboard jungle, rockers uptown, aquarius dub, super ape, even though these are seminal in every sense...

1. Dennis Bovell - Strictly Dub Wize or I Wah Dub
2. Prince Far I & The Arabs - Cry Tuff Dub Encounter III
3. Aswad - A New Chapter Of Dub
4. Burning Spear - Garvey's Ghost
5. Keith Hudson - Pick a Dub
6. King Tubby & Soul Syndicate - Freedom Sounds In Dub(even though it's compilation)
7. Lee Perry - Dub Triptych (as above)
8. Mikey Dread - Africa Anthem
9. Prince Jammy & Scientist - Dub Landing 1&2 (also solo work of both)
10. Ranking Dread - Ranking Dread In Dub
11. Tappa Zukie - In Dub
12. Yabby You - Dub It To The Top

There are of course much much more and lots of crucial records missing but choosing only 10 dub records seems like a crime to me:)

Nice choices. I agree that Aswad New chapter of dub is indeed a seminal release. Personally I don't like the album but it definitely holds an important place historically in the pantheon of dub releases.

10 of the more important releases from 1973 to 1983? It's a hard question. I think that more than half of those releases probably are from the years 1973 - 1975 since dub evolved EXTREMELY under these few years and it continued to evolve until it disappeared from JA.

At least some Scienstist-album from the 80's has to be in the list since he introduced a groundbreaking way of mixing the bass that no one had done before. I don't even know if I dare doing my own list on this matter.

I know what you are saying kalcidis. Your point about scientist got me thinking - because the chronology of releases is not always clear and Jamaican music seems to have always been a real melting pot of ideas it isn't always obvious when the innovation took place and who was responsible. In the case of scientist, it would be interesting to think which of his 1980/1981 albums was really important vs something like his Scientific Dub (which sounds a bit like tubby's to me!)

As I remember it (and this is a long, long time ago) "Scientist v. Prince Jammy - Big Showdown" was completely different to anything I had ever heard before. Particularly that opening track.

Maybe not what's been asked for, but if you want to hear the development of dub from 1970 to 1980 on one album I would recommend this;

I do think if you are looking at the evolution of dub you do need to look pre-1973.
