in japan no young ppl buy big ticket items like a house,car(car is changing tho).so that means alot more disposable income.

anyway i order alot from reggaerecord.com ,so good for them.They have some great stuff.

i will travel to find rarities in shops. ,and i wont tells yous the best city in north america(out of about 20 i been to that is) for reggae and the cheapest and abundant..go ahead guess tho

I find it highly ironic that some people on this board have to resort to calling Japanese "Japs." So much for enlightenment (especially on a Roots Reggae forum). Does it matter what nationality a purchaser or collector is? Nobody screamed bloody murder for the chap or questioned the nationality who bought a disc for 1,600 USD!
I used to sell on eBay and occasionally to Japanese collectors/stores. And guess what? They paid, and if you lost out on a bid, tough cookies.

Darewon, I dont think there was any kind of racism there. And yes, the nationality of buyers can matter as when its massive, like it was in Japan, its the sign of a strong cultural interest. And its particulary interesting to understand for Japan, that has a culture that was for so long disconnected from Christianity and bible and from English speaking. That's just interest and has no link with any racial discrimination or anything.

There is a kind of trauma sometimes in the worldwide form of reggae culture like you couldnt even notice that a man is black or white or this or that. Is noticing any difference the expression of a segregation? Some people want to see a ONE humanity with no difference, very glossy and shiny, thinking that this is the real universal brotherhood. But for me they are wrong, cause those differences is a richness, a diversity that learn us the complexity of life and the little thing we are, it makes you humble and curious of world and people. The real thing is to respect this difference and learn from it, not to try to hide the differences. When I see bredrens from West Africa wearing their traditionnal clothes, they certainly want to show from where they are and are proud of their culture, but this means no way that they are racist.

So yes, Japaneses are asian and certainly come from Japan... And why not speak of them?

I'm just referring to the use of the word "Jap." It's derogatory from where I'm from (big old Babylon, USA) and has ties to descriptions of Japanese during WWII. And if it matters, I'm Asian!

And yes I realize that in other countries, specifically the UK, the word is used quite frequently.

I spent a month in Kingston and was called "Mister Chin" by everyone wanting my business. People can say its harmless but do you ever hear the side from an Asian's perspective? Usually, no.

Yes, I've often wondered if we would all be so nice and friendly to each other if we all found ourselves in a bar together but DIDN'T know we were all R-A members. I'd like to think we would be, but experience has taught me that there would be lots of barriers and ingrained prejudices to put aside first.

We are all one world, one people. Colour of skin is no different to colour of shirt because we are souls not bodies. But this is fantasy, the crazy world doesn't want to listen to good sense like that, it's too busy with "me me me, more more more".
