Where is the Tubby of today?

Post by I-Defenda »

Who are the artists nowadays, who walk in the footsteps of King Tubby, Scratch Perry and King Jammy (to name a few people who took/take mixing to a higher creative level). I mean the craftsman who can deliver a proper discomix and/or dub version of a tune.
To me more creative mixing is done in the digital UK roots nowadays, than in the Jamaican roots of today. What happen to this craft people?

reggae went through several developments and i guess times of discomixes are over...just like you said, the dub mixing is much easier to find in the uk (just look at jah shaka, mad professor, alpha & omega......) than in the jamaican studios........

perry was a great producer and mixing engineer, but today he is only (sometimes) a good singer..king jammy is working still but no longer in the dub section...

I liken that canadian kid from twilight circurcs(n.l based),rob moore?? to have been schooled by those great teachers even though his mutant new age styles are different and he never actually was taught by them.

It sounds to me like the original poster was more interested in Jamaica-based dub mixers, of which there doesn't appear to be any. It seems dub is a lost art in Jamaica.
