Good info there, especially on the Moth RCM, i use one of those also, worth getting.
The Stanton STR8150s are made of steel (16.4kg) and the vibrations people mention dont come through on those at all, shame that when i dj out its like lugging two boxes of bricks around though! also torgue on the motor is high (4.5kg cm)
In comparison i dont rate the technics 1210s that highly, their good as their the market standard but for price the price the features involved are low, low torgue (1.4kg cm and weigh 11kg) in particular put me off (and the fact the tone arm seems to not like staying in the right position) however; 1210s are known to last a long time, so build quality must be high.
Personal oppinion, not slating the 1210s, decent decks but wouldnt splash out the money on those in particular.
Sorry my post is a bit of a mess today, all these facts and figures and the fact my punctuation is pretty crap doesnt help!.

Re: Direct Drive or Belt Drive?
Irie brothers, wow leggo! rightious post man, thanks for all the info, im just starting my collection (linyl, have a ton of cd/mp3) and feel like an infant even though ive been tuning into reggae for a couple of years now, but i just picked up a dd audio-technica AT-PL120, i guess its a technics 1200 knock off, but for the price, the reviews people gave it were awesome, and for starting out it sounds pretty good to me. Im super stoked on it, im spinning "wiser dread" as i type!
but the only thing is i would consider switching out the cartridge, but other than that i feel its a fine first deck.

Audio Technica is the parent company of Technics (1200, 1210, etc.) so your choice is a good one.

Is it? Are you sure?darewon wrote:Audio Technica is the parent company of Technics (1200, 1210, etc.) so your choice is a good one.
The parent company of Technics and Panasonic is Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd. (from the Panasonic web site)
Perhaps Audio Technica is another Matsushita brand?

Re: Direct Drive or Belt Drive?
I think so. My first pair 1200s came with Audio Technica information (repair locations, etc).
Perhaps, they are both operated by Matsushita???
I just wish I could shake the turntable bug. I sold my 1200s before moving and wound up buying to pairs for 250.00 USD and a vestax mixer to boot. Now I have to think about moving them again...or selling them again!

I presume you already have 'Robin Hood' by Barrington? Similar LP and brilliant sounds.
For other suggestions check out the 'what's on your turntable' thread, it contains a rich seam of real gems!
