Junior Murvin/Lee 'Scratch' Perry - Song Query

Post by chromatic »

I'm obsessed with the version of Junior Murvin's (feat. Dillinger) 'Roots Train' that appears on Reel II of Perry's 'Arkology' collection. The second half of the track is a different vocalist dubbed in, featuring lyrics including: 'Babylon is falling... Ethiopia is calling', 'If Babylon legalize it... natty dread will provide it', and 'Natty roll it in a rizla' (I've tried googling these and I'm coming up blank). Can anyone tell me if this is a different original track and, if so, what it's called and who it's by?

Cheers!

Yes, just do a song search here on RA and you will find it is DR ALIMANTADO
(and Raphael Green ?)
available on several issues including HOUSE OF SINGLES
which is like the 2nd half of the Arkology version

[Roots Train](http://www.roots-archives.com/release/3 ... light=3981) by Junior Murvin & Dillinger and [Rasta Train](http://www.roots-archives.com/release/3 ... light=3984) by Raphael Green & Dr. Alimantado are two different songs.

Just listened to Roots Train and it sounds to me as if it's a continuation of the song but without Junior Murvin's vocals so you just hear the backing singers vocals. In fact, in the (almost) instrumental run before Dillinger cuts in you hear the backing vocals in the foreground and Junior's voice just seeping through in the background (tape leakage?).

When Dillinger comes in it's the backing vocals you occasionally hear.

At a guess I would say it's the vocals of Full Experience. That said it so difficult to tell (there seems to some kind of phase effect on it. Mind you that could be my ears! It could even be the Meditations!).

Obviously as I am just guessing here I am happily open to correction. :)

Hi there Chromatic,
Just to throw this into the mix,I knew I`d heard the lyrics before! On my copy of "To Be A Lover" by George Faith on HIP-O Select`s Ltd.CD of the same album there is an extended version of "To Be A Lover ( Have Mercy )" which has the same toast bleeding into the track. It IS Dillinger, according to David Katz`s book "People Funny Boy". Quote :"Island`s UK pressing (of "To Be A Lover"),though shorter, inadvertently went one step further by leaving in some portions of Dillinger`s toast to "Roots Train",which had bled through one channel of the tape....

That's Dillinger. The first half has vocals by Junior Murvin, and then the second half ("Babylon is falling", etc) is Dillinger.
