Dont take it that personnally, youthman...
I think what wareika said and that I agree with is that there are main flows in sound system culture...
And Shaka created one of them or at least influenced a lot the UK scene. This scene and its public was at first really underground and limited, it has now a nearly worldwide appeal and so there is a larger public for that. As Shaka played some tunes particularly cause they were sticking well with his revolutionnary new sound, they acquired the status of *Shaka classics* or *Shaka killers* and seem to have nowadays a special echo with the public. Those chunes are generally really great, at least the pre-digi stuff, Im totally with you. Thus, there are two approaches: you can either enjoy them and play them as if you had discovered them on your own (like you said). Or you can try, in aim to win clashes or have a larger audience, to look for those Shaka tunes exclusively and simply play *a Shaka selection* ina *fake Shaka Style*. That was in the 90's the same thing with Sound Systems that selected exactly the Top50 Jamaica charts... That means, no creativity, no personnality, kind of weak prostitution to satisfy the public...

Im with wareika to say that most of these Sounds are far too serious. Kind of ruff and tuff males but ina cold European fashion. What I love in reggae are the feelings, emotions, hope, sufferation, the humanity in it. And I dont feel that at all in that ruff *supermale* behavior. Shaka was not that serious at all, when you see him dancing on stage or djing, he's sweet, even if he play it loud!

That's it Litelet!

Actually, I'm not saying that the Shaka killers aren't good. of course, there are plenty of real gems.

The point is that too much sound system try to have as much as possible of this shaka tunes, and overlook the tune which are not on these Shaka lists. This sounds are Shaka wanabe and they don't try to build their owne styles.

The other point is that this tune are often the same style and you can't reduce reggae to one style. Reggae is so versatile.

Last, they are too serious. Music can be serious but it's also entertainment. I can't find entertaiment in most Shaka wanabe selection.

One beat, one harmony; RASTAFARI!!!

At least to I it sounds interesting, if certain people put themselves in the position to tell other sounds what they _can_ and _cannot_ play. But hey, please do feel absolutely free to do just that. After all, each and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

As for mine, I will NEVER put down a sound for playing strictly ina King David style. After all, that _ancient_ vibration is the one Shaka clearly is seeking for. Just as clearly as he is a _very_ exceptional individual when it comes to finding and recognising thit type of sound along with the vibration it carries.

I have never heard Jah Shaka claiming to come before King David in playing ina King David style. Nor have I heard any other man dub him a "copycat" or whatever because of this. With this same logic, I fail to understand how the term "Shaka-wannabee" is justified, if the type of sound played is the only reason to use this term.

I do realise, that the phrase "King David style" carries a "religious" meaning, that probably most people on this forum don't agree with. In fact, they are likely to think it's merely a phrase that Jah Shaka is perhaps even the first man to have used, in order to describe his sound. Nevertheless, most people on this forum _do_ distinguish this sound from other type of reggae, with their own ears alone. Just as they can understand, how this sound can, and, more importantly, _is_ being played by other sounds/people than Jah Shaka.

I LOVE King David's style. To me, it has, as the only type of music I know of, given this haunting, ethereal, and hallowed feeling - long before I even knew what to call it. It is the only music to bring wonderful tears of joy to I eyes. Ever since the first time I heard Aswad's "Back To Africa" (that was the first tune that did it for I), I've been completely and totally beyond the point of return. I hope to hear this sound in every single dance I attend to.

So to I it does not really matter, whether it's played by Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti-I, a local sound from Finland called Healing of the Nation, or even Iself. When it comes to Iself playing this type of sound, I am sorry to say that I really just can't say I'm sorry for all the record collectors out there, who are offended/bored/both if they hear Iself playing ina King David style and are hence reminded of the man Jah Shaka. Because saying that would be lying, and I try I best to avoid that nasty habit as much as possible.

I sincerely hope that nicknames "Litelet" and "wareika" now understand, if even a little bit better, why I'm taking this one quite personally. And I must say, I am quite sure that both of you have been going to reggae dances a lot longer than I have. So I really do understand, if you get tired to hearing only one type of sound in dances, and especially, _if_ that - extremely spiritual - sound is something that you're personally not able to connect to, on a spiritual level. Now, I don't (and even couldn't) know if you are, this is merely an assumption based on my reading of your posts on this forum, so please do not take offence.

Blessed Love everytime.
