Re: i still don't have any studio one
It's too hard to make a choice regarding Studio One. Basicly, everthing from the label is worth listening. I would even say a reggae collection without a solid amount of S1 material miss among the most important music ever produced in Jamaica.
My choice, just to start, would go for the artists who started their carrier with Dodd. In many cases it is simply the best part of their (often) long carriers. For exemple: Burning Spear, Horace Andy, Heptones, Bob Andy, Dennis Brown, Sugar Minott and of course the Skatalites, Don Drummond and Jackie Mitto for the instrumental side. It's only a small list that still miss some great artists!
For the dub LPs, I'm not with you Leggo Rockers. I mean these LP are not that great IMHO on the dub side. The mixes are not in the same league as Errol Thompson, King Tubby, Scientist or jammy, to name a few dubmasters. On the other hand they are killers if you consider the rhythms which are often classics. There are also the "Studio One goes funky" tunes on this sets which are often scorchers. Anyway I would not start a Studio One collection with these LPs, neither a dub collection. These sets are more for the one who already have a certain amount of Studio One material or dub. I don't have that much, especially cause I collects originals and these are really hard to find. Perhaps I miss the best!

Actually Wareika you *ARE* with me on this one!
I am actually not even that much of a Studio One fan, unlike my Bredder MightyZ who has always loved their work.
I agree that most Studio One dubs pale compared to the works you mention, Errol T etc.
But they are still worth listening to if you are on a Studio One journey and some people might actually prefer this dub style to the others. Me? I'd take Channel One dubs over Studio One dubs anytime!
Take Sugar Minott for instance. Yep, his Studio One work is really nice stuff, but I much prefer the stuff he did after he left them - up until his early digital era in the mid to late 80s.

No man, every collection have holes. The taste play and important role on the choices one make.Still you can also check out the RA contest last year of what are the best albums of vocal artist so you know how many people vote for a particular album. In there you will know what studio one album have the most approval...Stay Irie
