Don't worry - I didn't take it too literally Version Control. But there really is some techno out there - especially the minimal german stuff - where I find myself recalling tubby's on the mix. It's all about the drum and the bass I guess!

I agree with Bing Selecta, Megaton Dub Vols. 1 & 2 are seminal. Every last track is HEAVY material.
I think the King Tubby/Harry Mudie in Dub Conference volumes are seminal, too, in a different way. The use of strings is really worth checking out.
PS Hello, and peace from Japan!

Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned:

I've never actually heard King Tubby/Harry Mudie in Dub Conference but people often talk about the strings on it. I'm not sure if i would like it, given the description but maybe I should give it a go. Another one I'd really like to hear is the message dubwise by Prince Buster. Never been able to get hold of that one either.

Punxsta, I can understand why you're hesitant when you hear the term "dub with strings", but it's really much better than that description sounds. The strings are only there in snatches and they complement the bass and percussion excellently. Definitely worth a listen.

Hi Punxsta
I felt exactly as you did until I heard "[Dub Conference Vol 1](http://www.roots-archives.com/release/2369)" for the first time last night. Absolute scorcher!

-All Cry Tuff Dub Encounters, but especially volume 4.
-Glen Brown of course. There's a devastating compilation out on Blood & Fire, called Termination Dub.
-Tapper Zukie in Dub, mixed by Prince Philip. The title track is the heaviest dub I ever heard. Also on B&F.
-Starship Africa by Creation Rebel.
-If you can find it: Chanting Dub by Rockers All Stars
-Ras Michael's Rastafari in Dub is pretty weird, but if you want really strange, try his Love Thy Neighbour. Not strictly dub, but if not, what is it then?
-Scientist's 'comic strip' series is definitely worth a listen. My favourite is 'wins the world cup'.
-Perry dubs in abundance on the various compilations: I am the Upsetter, Arkology and a couple of Trojan double-cd's (Open The Gate, Build the Ark, Compact Set), plus of course Blackboard Jungle Dub.
... are the first that come to mind...
