I haven't gotten to the Jammy book, I've been savoring the magazines, just allowing myself a little at a time, because when they're done they're done....

Re: Abraham Records
I found the quote I was thinking of in an interview with Delroy Wilson.
Question: Who was the most honest producer you worked for?
Wilson: None of them. They're all the same. Some could act like they are a decent man or woman but behind closed doors they are all robbers. Like if you record for those guys they will put your record on Africa and you don't know how many sold. And they would go and collect the money in Africa and you wouldn't know anything.
As is well documented elsewhere this isn't the first time an artist is quoted as saying something similar.

Re: Abraham Records
OK, I'm back on this thread again and more than a little frusturated, I was reading about the bogus Lee Perry releases on the Eternal Thunder website
http://www.upsetter.net/scratch/disco/index.htm
and came across these two with the quotes from the site:
"ETERNAL DUBS
CD: Abraham
More like Eternal Flubs. Anything on the Abraham label is to be avoided."
"THE QUEST
CD: Abraham
This one must be classified as only "semi-bogus". Many of the tracks are mislabelled, and some are duplicated, but all are actual Scratch productions. All tracks are available on more bonafide collections, so don't waste your time with this one or with anything on the Abraham label."
Here's my dilemma, I have made an effort to avoid Abraham releases, but I recently received boxes of CDs from both Ernie B's and Dub Store and on their websites both had CDs listed as Clocktower releases, but when they get to my house they're suddenly on the Abraham label, for example Jah Thomas, Dance on the Corner among several others.
Any thoughts?

Re: Abraham Records
Abraham is using the Clocktower label, which again he claims he paid for. He probably did, but it's the actual music he's putting out on that label that many claim isn't his to use.
For this reason, I know avoid EVERYTHING new on CLocktower and only buy the original issues. What's more, the Abrahams Clocktower vinyl I've seen is horrible quality.
And I really don't think he's on Linval Thompson's Christmas card list

Thanks Leggo. I guess I'll be avoiding both.

The problem is here, Chris, that if you try too hard to avoid any piracy in reggae your collection will be very very small. Sadly. I think it is awful the that way money-power-greed made people cheat on their own struggling bredrins.

Re: Abraham Records
Hmmm, friends.....
This was a little of a surprise for me. So actually Abraham is a fake?
I heard alot of the poor quality and so on, But that its actually a bootleg-company!
I just got my hands on this:
[cover=745,868]
On the backcover it says Abraham/Clocktower!!??
But on the record Clocktower......
Is Abraham like a distrubutor or something?

Re: Abraham Records
Abraham / Clocktower = Abraham re-issues of Clocktower originals.
Apparently, while he seems to have some legitaamacy to his claim to the actual name 'Clocktower' - there's dispute over his ownership of these titles. So the claims are that these re-issues are basically piracy.
Although, I have also heard that some of the ORIGINAL Clocktowers weren't all-too official either.
As for Honest Abe, I always thought it was the biblical Abraham depicted.
It's a jungle out there and it's full of pirates.

Hey leggo,i will have to dig out one of my ,lp's again.I was going by memory and believe it is a sillouette of abraham lincoln.I could be wrong tho.I did stop buying them before i knew of any piracy issues just because they usually sounded like rubbish.
Your knowledge of all this is very benneficial though, thanks.peace
