My reggae career started with mainly Channel One stuff, and I tend to prefer this studio's output to Studio One, on the whole.
It would be a very difficult choice but if I could only keep records from one of the studios Channel One would get my vote.
What about you?

Both Studios were as important as each other imo.
They produced two completely differect sounds which were both as relevant and important as each other in advancing reggae music at that time.
It really comes down to personal taste and although I think Studio One was superior in coming up with original ryhthms, then Channel One took those ryhthms one step further.
As my time was the eighties then I guess I too would go with Channel One. Its what I know better.

I vaguely remember a similar thread to this a little while ago and I stood firmly in the Channel One camp.
However, about 4 months ago I had an *epiphany* moment and suddenly *got* Studio One.
I consequently dug out all of my Studio One albums and they sounded, to my now Studio One attuned ears, completely different.
Totally bizarre I must admit and a long time coming!! Thirty two years to be precise!!
So **Studio One** it is!!!
Incidentally, I find it particularly amusing that someone who is always banging on about originals is backing the *remastered* versions!!

Perhaps I also can have a musical revelation and get Studio One but right now I choose Channel One all days in the week, every week of the year. To be honest I often don't even check for Studio One music as I find it a bit boring.

I too have got more into Studio One lately but still prefer the 'new' boys down at Channel One.6anbatte wrote:I vaguely remember a similar thread to this a little while ago and I stood firmly in the Channel One camp.

Studio One gave the first strong bases to roots reggae,so as a small child this music went to school, healthy, with strong brain and took the first important graduation in Zion.Channel One took reggae as a young person and send it at the University of Jah.So,I respect unlimited both studios, but I vote,Channel One.

i tend to agree with don, i can't be without any of these two crucial studios. studio one is defintely more roots, but channel one had a distinct sound which is just irrestiable.
if this question came up about ten years ago i would have said channel one. now i would, a bit reluctantly, say studio one
