country man was too americanized in my opinion. i cant remember that i finish watching it but in that time i was working in a record shop providing dvds so i did watch every movie based on reggae but nothing can beat rockes.

Saw Countryman when it first came out--waited for it, in fact. When I did see it I loved it, but I suspect if I were to see it now it would look pretty dated. Around that time there wasn't a lot of Reggae in the movies.
Still isn't, now that I think of it.
Rockers -- loved it
The Harder They Come -- loved it
Countryman -- loved it
The only other movie from around that time that sticks in my head is Rude Boy with the Clash, which I also loved. Not really a Reggae movie, though.
To get back to the point of the thread, most of my favorite movies come from Kurosawa, Kubrick, or Coppola.
Kagemusha is my favorite from Kurosawa, but he did so much good stuff!
Dr. Strangelove is probably my favorite from Kubrick (all his work ranks pretty high with me, except Barry Lyndon)
Apocalypse Now! (Coppola)
There's a great little movie from the early '80s called Repo Man that I highly recommend too. Gets me laughing every time (great punk soundtrack too).

Great movie! No question. In fact, I haven't seen a Kurosawa movie I haven't liked.
Time was, I used to add "except Dodesukaden" to that comment, but I was in JP not long ago and the movie's title really is the sound the train wheels make on the tracks! On every train I kept hearing, "dodes-kaden, dodes-kaden." Resolved to watch it again and give it another chance. I may not have been ready for non-samurai Kurosawa movies when I saw it.
While we're at it, there are other good Samurai movies besides Kurosawa's. Don't forget Samurai Trilogy (Hiroshi Inagaki) and Chushingura (Kunio Watanabe), to name two off the top of my head.

Countryman is a pretty cheesy production really. Done on a tight budget with many amateur actors. But so what. I still love it.

Allright, its sort of an insult to Kurosawa to compare Shogun and his movies.
And it is not a fair description of feodal-Japan maybe?
Alot of hack´n´slash....
But still a funny flick....

Shogun Assassin is a great movie! I saw it prior to reading the epic comic. I've enjoyed both immensely.
My favourite Kurosawa-movie has to be a non-samurai one though. Ikiru is one of the most sublime cinematic masterpieces ever created. I think I'll even watch it again this evening.
