This is my favorite all-time riddim, never get tired of hearing it and could sit all day just playing versions.
However, one thing I have always wondered but up till now have never asked is what does "Shank I Sheck" mean.

I think it is a pun on the Chinese pre-revolutionary leader

Yes thats true. Back in the mid-60's a lot of ska instrumentals was named after famous persons or names such as "Guns Of Navarone" "Lee Harvey Oswald" and as you probably know the original shank i sheck was a ska instrumental by Baba Brooks so actually it makes perfect sense.

Thanks
Its amazing what you learn, does make sense.
I thought perhaps it was some form of Jamaican Slang.

I agree, this has got to be the most infectious riddims that I know. Its almost impossible to lay down a bad song over such a good track. It carries the weakest vocal on its shoulders and makes it move.

I'll second that (or fourth it!).
I don't think I can think of a poor track on this riddim!
Just check out the list of tracks on this riddim at algoriddim.com for instance.
House of God on 12inch (Black Roots label) by Sugar Minott is huge.

Yes great rhythm. My favourite versions are Juvenile Child by the Mighty Diamonds and the cut used on the album George Phang At Skateland Live.
