Just wondering brethren how many albums you got?
I`m always searching for more records and expanding with regards to different artists does`nt matter wheather it Roots/Dub/Ska/Dancehall.I n I started off a few years back with a few albums but now i got over 110,that`s probably small compared to alot of the brethren here.I just can`t get enough it`s like Peter Tosh once sang "Reggaemylitis" that defines me to the "T" and there is no cure.My girlfriend, friends and family say "There`s other music out there besides reggae" but for me no chance,I and I a rastaman and reggae keep me smiling and positive, i`m 23 now and lol i`ll be 80 still reckoning wich album must i look out for, still creating more space for my ever increasing collection.
"Reggaemylitis" Up and kicking just the way JAH intended.
Jah bless and guide

Re: How many reggae albums do you have?
No matter how many reggae albums you have there will always be so many more that you want and the deeper you get into the music, the worse the situation gets.
Going slightly off topic, make sure you don't ignore singles! There is just so much great music that never makes it onto albums - vinyl or CDs.
It's a similar situation to only buying on one format. Most of us have a preferred format but if you only buy vinyl you'll miss a great many essential CD reissues, often with bonus tracks. Only buying CD means no 7", 12", 10" or even a lot of affordable repress LPs that never show on CD.
I collect about six genres of music but Jamaican would account for maybe about 30% of my whole collection.

This is a dangerous question to answer because there are people out there that seem to think collecting reggae records is some sort of crime.

Re: How many reggae albums do you have?
Why would some people think it`s a crime Leggo? My collecting of reggae sounds is due to the love for the music and because there so much reggae out there alot of money and space is required.
It`s like Freddy C mentioned that the more you get into it specially artists that fit your style the more the albums of there`s you look out for.I have to admit that i`ve spent alot of cash on reggae albums probably too much in the eyes of other people but no price can be put on something thats special to I.
I man has mentioned it before that the rastaman holds a special place for reggae in life
This question i ask to rasta`s is not a competition on who has more i`m just wondering how many records could you say ya got.
I noticed mon that there are always so many questions asked here on all types of records and producers, labels, backing bands ect. and people here got answers here to questions i would not even know of so that must mean that some brethren can boast a huge collection. Just Curious
Respect and guidance

But a real rastaman don't use any electronic stuff even if reggae music diffuses a rasta message... no?

Yes, it shouldn't be a crime to have a large reggae record collection, but maybe some people don't normally boast about the size and value because it's almost impossible to get it insured!
I can join in with the percentages though: 7" singles & CDs - 90% reggae; 12" singles & LPs - 30% reggae. I've been collecting for 37 years.
You're also right about the huge amount of knowledge here - and on other sites such as Blood and Fire and Trojan. But that doesn't necessarily mean the contributors all have massive personal collections. Some have gained knowledge from being in the music business whilst others might specialise in a single artist or producer or label. That's one of the reasons I don't jump in with answers to questions more often - even if I've got plenty of Studio One, Lee Perry, King Tubby or whatever, there's always someone just around the corner who knows 10 times more.

Re: How many reggae albums do you have?
Some people here who have revealed that they collect have then had to endure insults or jibes from other members who seem to think it is greedy, or pushes the price of records up, or isn't 'rasta' or whatever. I speak from personal experience having very recently been accused of being "too busy buying records to actually listen to any".
And I'll admit it does upset me.
But I'll risk a flaming to tell you that I have:
I had a nice collection of maybe 200 to 400 records up until the early 80s when I foolishly sold them for pennies. I started collecting again about 3 years ago. With the bulk of my collecting happening in the last two. I got off to a slow start as I was initially buying back my old stuff on CDs.
It was MightyZ that got me started on vinyl again when he started selling his collection on eBay. I stepped in and bought almost all of the ones he wanted to let off which kick started my vinyl collecting again.
Now maybe there's 3,000 records there in all, or more. I haven't counted them for a long while.
I don't like 7 inchers (in fact I am selling most of them see the thread in buy/sell/trade) so maybe only about 200 of them and soon maybe that'll be down to 50 that I don't really want to part with.
12 inch Discos now make up almost half my collection. I like them because they have better quality, longer versions (usually) and are of course ideal for my DJ sets.
But the majority is still LPs, although I tend now to buy 12s more often so I expect that this time next year the 12s will take first place from the LPs.
For insurance I use prayer to God. But if he wants to take them off me again, there's little I can do to stop him. My home insurance people just look blank at me when I ask them if it is possible to insure them against fire, flood or theft - and then hold their hands out for a stupidly inflated premium, so prayer it is then!

Re: How many reggae albums do you have?
This thread reminds me of a U.S. joke, which is probably told elsewhere around the world with a slight geographic twist.
Two guys are standing on the Golden Gate Bridge and they both start to piss off the edge.
The first guy says, "Wow that water's cold."
The second guy says, "And deep too."
As far as my collection, I have a bunch, but there's always more to find.
Leggo, I actually don't think of collecting as "un-Rasta", as I'm not a Rasta, I can't speak for them. I enjoy collecting reggae, because I like the music and the larger my collection, the larger the pool of music I can find enjoyment in. I consider my collection a little piece of history, (1970-85 of course). Back in the day, the DJ's and singers at sound systems used to spread the news of the day through their chat, today when I listen I can hear what was going on during this time period and be transportted to a different time and place.
Just some thoughts.

I agree. I see my collection as a kind of active museum.
