Can you recommend some albums that have lot of talking in?

Post by Samo »

So, a lot of reggae songs have talking before they begin. For example, each song on Black Ash Dub by Sly And The Revolutionaries has a bit of dialogue as an intro.

I'm a hip hop beatmaker/producer, whatever, and I like to use this dialogue in my beats. Can you recommend some albums to me that have a lot of talking in? You know, maybe albums that maybe have a running commentary, like Mikey Dread's African Anthem Dubwise.

Thanks.

Hi Samo

spoken intros on :

Niney The Observer "Space Flight Dub"
Tapper Zukie "Man Ah Warrior"
Dennis Alcapone "Beltch It Off"

& I Roy's "Buck & The Preacher" tune (one of the best spoken intros ever !)

i have found some albums of rasta elders reasoning about life and Jah Almighty. it is nothing but a clean recording of thier words, perfect for sampling. i play in an instrumental reggae/funk group and we use these samples live. i dont know the name of the recording, but i searched in soulseek(or other filesharing program) for "rasta speech" or things like that (speech, dialogue, rasta, etc). good luck, this would be very valuable to you i imagine...

There's a few samples you could gleam from this [cover=1479,1711]my fav being "I make the hits, not the public. I tell the d.js what to play". Which I think features in The Harder They Come, if me memory serves me right.

... Also, look for Jah Thomas LPs, or LPs produced by him. There's lots of intros by JT.
