Re: Reggae in TV commercials
Not a commercial but there's an edition of the UK motoring program 'Top Gear' featuring Clarkson in a car trying (and failing) to beat a man on foot across London.
During some of the outside shots the background music is reggae. The first track I didn't recognise, sounded English 80s studio reggae. But then, to my utter amazement, on came a track that is either off Leggo Dub, or is a very similar mix by the Revs.

Re: Reggae in TV commercials
Reggae has become fairly common in commercials or as backing music for shows, and sometimes the people choosing the music are obviously knowledgeable. More common though is the use of original JA ska in UK commercials, this has been quite common in the last 10 years, and some of my fave tunes such as Lord Tanamo's 'I'm in the mood for love' have been used.

Agreed, Ska is used much more in advertising than reggae, at least in the UK it is.
I guess it's that uplifting feel-good beat that makes it a popular choice with marketeers.

I've heard some strange ones recently like a quirky jazz version of the Congos on Ramsie's Kitchen Nightmares, & Queen Majesty playin on Flipper the movie (starring comedy legend Paul Hoogan).

I'm not sure if linking threads between different boards is frowned upon or not(?) But on the Trojan Forum there is a topic near the top of the list that already has about 20 pages of contributions on this very subject.

Not at all frowned on (here at least) so please feel free to post the link into this thread.

OK thanks - here's the Trojan thread on the subject, linking to the most recent page:

And this is a general site that helps identify music from TV commercials (UK only though).
