I'm assuming you're using Windows here... if you're using a Mac I can't help you unfortunately.

If he was using a Mac he wouldn't need help, the Mac would help him!

That's one of the major differences between the two formats. Macs are written FOR the user, Windows expects the user to have a degree in Computer Science and a lot of patience.

Yes I am using windows and when I go into properties it says:

Type of file: File

Heheheh! That's just what you'd expect from Windows!
