Re: Yabby You - Walls of Jerusalem
The following, from the notes to Blood & Fire's "Jesus Dread" set explains:
Jackson stood apart from many of his contemporaries; as he says himself, "Dem use to deal with Ras Tafari, an' I deal with Jah through Jesus Christ". He took much of his lyrical inspiration from Biblical sources, such as the Revelation of St. John from the New Testament. Obviously, in lyrical terms, this is a far more personal approach to take than that favoured by most other reggae artists, but in no way does it detract from the music. Indeed, the opposite is the case.

Jesus is seldomly explicitly mentioned in rasta lyrics, but there are many references to the gospels.
For example Barry Brown "They could never love I and I / They sold out Jah son for thirty pieces of silver" (30 Pieces of Silver)
My theory is that rasta is really more christian than it admits. Because the christian religion is regarded by rebel types as a tool for oppression and colonialism the figure of Jesus had to be replaced by an African king: Selassie. But really the motivation behind rasta is the propagation of the message of the gospels. To preserve dignity and to abandon the "babylonian" missapropriation of the christian message this message for the rasta must be presented in a more african way.

Yabby You stated in a NME I read (from the 70's) that for him Selassie was on the same level as the English queen ... or something along those lines. So I guess he isn't perhaps as an orthodox rasta as many of the artists are.
He is often referred to as Jesus Dread due to his beliefs.

From the "[**Jesus Dread](http://www.roots-archives.com/release/201)**" liner notes;
....Yabby was on the corner with his Rasta friends...
"I was reasonin' and I was sayin' that I don't see Rastafari as the Supreme, because I say the Supreme live inside a we as temples, as a higher heights, the highest heights in Creation. An' it cause a big dispute with the whol' a dem Rasta man. Me hold on to my opinion an' dem hold on to dem opinion......"

Re: Yabby You - Walls of Jerusalem
TONS of roots artists talk about Jesus in a positive light. Even Bob Marley's "So Much Things to Say" discusses Jesus being crucified. Remember, a lot of Rastas saw Selassie as another aspect of Jesus and refer to H.I.M. as the "Second Coming" of Jesus.

Ites!
RASTAFARI manifest ina different ways. Sure a lot of people (Rasta or not) find it like "religious ting" but fi I&I simply is de Way of Life, de Natural Mystik. Jesus corresponds wid Rasta ideal an de search an defence of TRUE Love, Equality, Truth, Peace, Justice, Wisdom, Respect, Consciousness... according to LAW of JAH/IRATION - opposite to babylon-evil - wat was revealed to Moses ina all its Greatness. I&I seh TRUE RASTA=TRUE CHRISTIAN=TRUE JEWISH do dat =TRUE ETHIOPIAN=TRUE AFRICAN an sum up TRUE SON OF JAH.
Holy Bible is essential part of Rasta Culture. Above all its true study, knowledge an interpretation. I&I also emphasize other texts like it called "The Humane Gospel" an also "The Gospel Of The Holy Twelve" (or "The Gospel Of The Nazirenes"). Both show no-adulterared Jesus.
Obviously ina Rasta Musik an Roots Reggae there´s much direct references to Jesus. Nuh only Yabby. Fi example there´s a great song: The Silvertones´ "Rejoice Jah Jah Children" inspired ina Jesus´ Sermon of the Mountain:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."
Matthew 5, 3-12
