The Officials = Earth and Stone

Post by Litelet »

Ive read that the Officials, those having released that mighty *Babylonian* chune on Jaguar are the next called "Earth and Stone" and it sound truly similar. Do any of you know more of them under this first name? Their early sound is wicked.

Would like to know more about them too!

Hadn't played these in awhile so I was surprised at how much the lead singer sounds the same on Babylonians as he does a few years later with Earth and Stone.

You can also hear the similarities in his voice on Ten Years Ago (Iron Side) (1972?) but it is not nearly as pronounced as Babylonians (1974).

Heavy Studio 1 bass line on Ten Years Ago, but not a big fan of the shoo-doop-de-doo refrain in the song, especially since the song has such a dread feel to it. But it doesn't wreck it.

Matty, the flip side to Ten Years Ago is by a DJ called Prince Garthie, sounds like a different riddim than Ten Years Ago. Going to play it again, seems to have promise - didn't catch why it goes by the title Apple???

Earth and Stone, love 'em!

Right, so ther might be only this other tune, that you say is not as crucial as Babylonian...

I would love more! Yeah youre true, that voice on Babylonian is really similar to their late voice & style...

That tune is wicked Matty, with a tuff riddim with horns and terrible vocal.

Yes-I! Babylonian is a great tune. Who is the producer? Perhaps Pete Weston?
