Is Marley reggae?

I've been listening to Burning Spear all day, right the way through almost all their LPs. And I love it.

But even Rodney isn't going to be able to claim the title of best reggae singer. In fact finding the 'king of the reggae vocals' will be a very hard task as the genre is jam packed with very solid singers.

By "king" of reggae i dont talk specially of the singer quality, but more the spirit, the vibe and the lyrics (of curse Bob sing better that W. Rodney!)

Wow - I can see how that would upset all the people who work hard at writing Reviews, moderating and coding new bits of the forums - and get nothing apart from an RA T Shirt for their efforts.

Oras/DaCENSored one - come on man - you clearly know a lot about Reggae music - but stop just trying to snipe at the guys who work real hard here - I only write Reviews for RA - I don't code or Moderate, but I spend a lot of my time trying to do the best job I can, for nothing but love of the music. This is what we are about here - spreading the love of Reggae Music and the Knowledge. I know that my knowledge is only the tip of the iceberg - that's why I come here to learn more.

I understand what you mean xman. Rodney does have a wonderful spiritual quality in his voice. Haunting almost. And I like that just as much as I like technically very good singing voices, like Sugar Minott for instance.

everyones entitled to different opionions on what they feel is reggae, its interesting to see the answers but we shouldnt push our ideals on what we believe is or isnt on others as each has their own journey and path to find and each will find reggae in many artists.

it's not exactly like this... I was talking about reggae business and the way they impose their crappy release in general. I gave an example quoting r-a archives because on the front page there was a skatalites release (from the 80's) with comments that make you believe that this was a crucial release. I wrote that it was quite strange to praise that much this poor release while a really crucial one like ska boo da ba (rereleased on cd) didn't get a word.

it was a good example cos it showed how it's easy for record companies to fool people. they just need to send some gifts or make advertising on zines and internet sites and they get extremely positive comments about their releases. even on roots archives...

reggae rookies often got fooled by excessive record reviews and it's a mess for the reggae cause.

the only thing I deplore is that some points of view recently became politically incorrect on the forum and got censored. I'm accused of so many things just because I am critical about reggae bu$ine$$ and internationalisation and because I mentioned some of the perverse effects coming from collectors.

I think RA just reviews everything it is sent - I don't think you will find much disagreement (even amongst RA mods) that there are many deplorable things about the Reggae business (in common with the music business in general) - in fact I have learnt some pretty horrendous things about the Reggae business on here as they have been often discussed in threads. As for front page - the reviews are rotated randomly I believe - not to suggest any specific importance. The reviews are just the opinion of the writer, I try to make mine as useful to people as possible, but I can only write what I think.
I make mistakes sometimes and people have a dig, which is a bit upsetting as I am giving my time freely to try to help out, but that is how it is when you put stuff in the public eye.

I do feel that yourself, Jah Glu and leggo all need to bury the hatchet though. I don't know all the ins and outs, but there is no point holding grudges. I got accused of backing up leggo all the time in a recent thread (he is my bro as many of you know).
I don't feel this is true - I back him up when I feel he is right - just like with any one else here. But I actually get on well with Jah Glu - we have many common opinions about things like the Reason 3 software. I just feel that Jah Glu knows how to wind Leggo up and seems to enjoy doing it! Leggo takes the bait every time and so it goes on.
So guys - one love, peace and unity. Leggo works hard on here for all the right reasons. Oras and Jah Glu are entitled to their opinions. All of us (yes I do include myself here) need to ensure we are not drawn into private battles - and if we have gripes - best to use the PM and keep it out of the public forums!
