What do you think about Wackies dub albums?

ites! anything outta wackies is killer! he has such a unique sound production wise...great urban gritty feel, no wonder considering barnes was coming outta brooklyn from the late 70's on.

I first heard it in the very early 80s and was taken by it right away.

I think Rootsman is right. For some, the Wackies sound my take some time to reach a comfort point with.

However to pass Wackies by would be to miss a huge library of diverse reggae talent. And that would especially be a shame as they are being re-issued very expertly and so give the opportunity to get original music on either Vinyl or CD fairly cheaply.

Does anyone know the original vocal or dub cuts of the ultraheavy rhythm used by Clive Field Marshall for his track "Love is What you Want"?

I have tried posting this question before on this forum without response and it has also been requested on two previous threads on the B&F forum yet each time it has immediately stopped the thread. Can anyone identify it or is there a conspiracy of silence surrounding it?

As for the Dub albums - my vote goes to African Roots vol. 1, the first and last tunes of the second side are as good as it gets for me.

Which LP is that track on D?

The Clive Field Marshall track "Love is What You Want" is on his 'Poor House Rockers' LP but it was also included on the first Wackies Sampler CD released by Basic Channel.

Maybe there are no other cuts but any help would be much appreciated. My only alternative is buying my way through the Wackies catalogue which would be very enjoyable but a bit of a stretch.

I'll check it out D and see if i can ID.

I have a fair number of Wackies 12s that have vocal versions of some of the LP dub/DJ tracks on them but don't always seem to appear on LPs themselves - or at least I haven't found them.

I also have a tape full of killas that I've been slowley identifying over the past few years. It was recorded in 1885 by a friend but sadly I lost the insert with the track and artist names on it!

One of the first dub albums I bought and still one of my favorites. Heavy tunes on this one! Probably my favorite wackies album.

I only have 1 dub album from Wackies, it is called Jamaica Super Dub Session I think. To be honest it is a little bit uninspring and I don't listen to it much.

Although not strictly a dub album I really enjoyed Horace Andy's Dancehall Style album on Wackies.

I think maybe you chose one of the least inspiring of the Wackies dubs I've heard! Get the Prince Douglas Dub Roots LP and you'll get a proper taste of Dub outta the Bronx.
