Yes, but it takes time and money and both are in short supply.

Is there not away that this could be achieved ??

Then on all sales RA could take some form of precentage commission.

Obviously it wouldn`t help the time issues but would make funds available to the moderators to use in which ever way they felt best to develop the site and make this fantastic place even better.

what would make it easier is if you donated a certain percentage of the monthly income to charity this would give RA a huge group of sponsers that would be donating most of the stuff sold on RA.
your spreading reggae music, helping charity, and making this fantastic place even bigger than ever imagined.
thats my RA contribution thought for the month

And what about keeping money out of some places sometimes !

Roots-Archives would be one of these places I guess.

I really do not understand why man always want to bring money everywhere he goes. I do not understand why man see everything in terms of money, buying, selling etc...

Must be a way to make up for a lack somewhere, no ? So is the donation to charity. Do you donate for helping someone else or in order to feel better because you feel guilty with your wealthy way of life compared to starving people in third world countries or just down your streets ? Do you sleep better after having donated to charity ?

I mean : is donating to charity a reason why so many people don't want to put on the table the problem of how we consumate ? Coz don't be naive, we create the situations we try to solve with donations. Did you gave up preventing instead of trying to cure ?

This post is not an attack to anyone, just what I feel right now. When I write "people", I include myself as I'm part of this society I describe by earning my life quite correctly in a wealthy country (France) and giving to charity too.

Selling T-shirt to face the costs inherent to a website (bandwith, hosting, etc.) OK
Seeing R-A becoming a shop, definitely NO.

"Money is the root of all evil" : not only a Bible quotation and an antiphon in reggae music.

This is why I have enjoyed trading records with a few members in the Buy Sell Trade section. No money, just records changing hands. It feels good somehow.

Sorry,

Perhaps I never explained my point very well.

I was not talking in a monetry to use this site as another commercial vehicle for someone to come on line here and use it as a place to make a profit for oneself.

I am definately against that and would not like to see this place turn into an online shop.

I am no IT literate person and dont really understand the workings behind organising or running a site like this.

All I do know is that it must cost money to run it and to continuously improve it for our viewing pleasure.

And from what I can tell, it is also funded by only a couple of people who put in a lot of time and effort to maintain it.

I was purely looking at it from a point of view to put something back into the site in a financial sense that would enable the moderators to carry on the good work and make "Roots Archives" an even more comprehensive and searchable site. A site that will remain with us for a long long time to come.

i agree with you, when i thought of it it was more of a way to spread the music, unfortunatley music costs money.
and so you cant avoid having it go to the wolfs once money is involved . didnt think of it that way but i see your point, it would be a shame to see this website go astray
