Tony Benjamin's "AFRICAN REBEL"
I recently saw the record on ebay and checked its' original price on popsike for $180, I have heard a couple of songs but is it really worth paying more than a hundred dollars for it? There are some bidders from Japan currently bidding on it.

Nope. I paid over $100 myself for it some time ago and it is not that impressive.

popsike is only going to tell you previous auction results of a particular record which is not necessarily a true representation of an items actual value(ultimately a judgement call that must be made by prospective buyers/sellers/listeners)....auction prices can be misleading considering how theyfluctuate with time and demand and the inherent bidding wars which seem to be quite common on ebay. my best advice is to have a listen for yourself and go from there. But I guess when resources arent available sometimes you just have to take a stab. Anyways I think the lp is killer, tough label and lets say its not the most widely available piece of wax. ill ball park it and say you can expect to pay 150 - 200 USD. good luck!

Thanks for the help, I do not plan to buy it even though it really catches my attention, however if i was to bid on it, I wouldn't think i could stand a chance of winning against the other private bidders (or companies) from Asia whom I've heard stories about.

Actually, past auction prices (the more/recent the better) are a very accurate reflection of a products demand. Trouble is Popsike only catalogues selective items and generally the higher priced ones, so their data is skewed.bandit3 wrote:popsike is only going to tell you previous auction results of a particular record which is not necessarily a true representation of an items actual value(ultimately a judgement call that must be made by prospective buyers/sellers/listeners)....auction prices can be misleading considering how theyfluctuate with time and demand and the inherent bidding wars which seem to be quite common on ebay. my best advice is to have a listen for yourself and go from there. If youo know a Powerseller who has acc ess to eBay's Market research, you can get all past auction back to 90 days which would be a very accurate determinant of demand for said item.

Re: Tony Benjamin's "AFRICAN REBEL"
What I meant to say is that the price someone else is willing to pay shouldn't affect how you value the item, shouldn't be a competition. If your ready to fork over the cake for something you then your ready case closed. 180 dollars as described by popsike for this lp is obviously stirring mixed feelings among people that have purchased this lp, as you can see from the posts above. so in order to truly make a educated decision one should probably have listen for themselves and decide. Your correct that current demand is directly related to the latest selling price. The problem is that demand and price are always in flux with potential buyers and sellers coming and going, so the results of one auction early in 2007 is far from accurately depicting the items true worth let alone predicting what the price may be a year later. The whole science of statistics is based on correct sampling methods. anyways no argument intented, just trying to clarify my stance. ciao

No the price you're willing to pay shouldn't affect what you are willing to pay, but I believe there is what I call the sweaty-palms multiplier that pushes your bid up based on what you see. Shouldn't, but does. Record collecting is so full of trends that things such as classic-era hip hop records can fall out of favour in months (giving way tp private press tapes out your trunk hip hop) and the records you got $50 for are now not worth more than $8. Asking around to people in the field of expertise is the best thing to do IMO.
