Unfotunately it seems these icons of ours only really get reconised for their greatness when they are gone. I picked up an old garnet silk cd the other day and was reminded of what a talent he truly was.If garnet had of been a hip hop star their would of been a blockbuster movie made of his life and his untimely tragic demise

The thing with this is ... would some of these artists still be worth mentioning in this topic if they didn't die at such a fase in their life?
i mean take hugh mundell. one of my favorit artists, died at the age of 21 and left us lots of big tunes. what if he would have lived on but made much less tunes ... like ini kamoze, ini kamoze's debut album is a real killer, but when i heard the second album called statement, i was less convinced 'bout his qualities. and i've bought another single of a much later period (don't know the trackname out of my head) and in my opinion it really sucked.

"Statement" is not that bad damn! Very close with his first album for me (maybe better same!!!), in "Pirate" the songs going flats apart some kool ones as "Queen of my house" by exemple, but the sound is really too much digital... After this 3 ones i agree, same for singing he lose feeling, and i dont comment for the sound lol
"STATEMENT" IS GOOD! DONT BELIEVE HIM GUYS!

Like i said Jacob " Killer" Miller was the greatest competition Bob Marley would have had because this guy could write great songs. For me the materials i have from him are worth diamonds. Shame we'll never know what else he coud have achieved.
Kayalion is right too..Some of dem would have had fall-off and maybe two years more on their life would have tarnished that legacy they have..
Ie: Dennis Brown gave us lots of sublime hits, but then again there are lots of garbage from this very guys..
Again what if Gregory Isaac died 20 yrs ago don't you think he would have left a great impact and people wondering what he could have achieved
Guys what we know surely is good but what makes things great is what we only imagine could have been.
Respect

I can't believe no one's mentioned Lacksley Castell!
The Hugh Mundell album, Jah Fire is actually Lacksley singing most of the songs.

Yes-I,
I heard that Hugh Mundell sang all the songs on side one of Jah Fire, and that Lacksley sang all the songs on side two...so half, not "most." But I agree with you 100% that Lacksley is often overlooked.
I've been collecting roots-reggae for almost 25 years, and I just discovered Lacksley's name about 3 years ago. A lot of his songs I knew, and loved, but I never knew it was him....Speak Softly, Tug-A-War Game, Babylon World...
I think he's more unknown than most because very little of his muzik was released. Pity.
