german reggae boxset

Post by Bonga »

Just bought this record set ( see pictures below )

Does anybody knows, when this was released, and if there where more of these boxsets made ? Was this a common thing in Germany, to release boxsets ?
The box gives an address in Hamburg, Germany.

Another thing is that there are 3 records from 3 different labels in this set.

Marley & the wailers - soul captive (Surprise records, from Belgium )
Trinity & dillinger - dj Clash. Burning sounds. BS1003
Various artists - burning sampler - Burning rockers - BR 2001

Hi Bonga!
I own this set, too. Bought it on ebay for small money. Nice to have 2 Burning Sounds releases in it.
The address on the back is the distributor in Hamburg.
Release date is probably the same when the BS records came out.
Box sets were not often in Germany. This one is not really rare but maybe it´s a nice piece for a collection.
Other one I remember is the Upsetter box set which was sold in the 80s in Germany.

You often could find those 2 LP sets of all volumes of "This Is Reggae Music". German pressing + distribution. They were big here.

The music industry wanted to earn money on reggae in the 80s on major productions like samplers and some Island stuff.

Nuff greetings,

I've seen that particular set a couple of times. It's worth it alone simply for the Dillinger vs. Trinity Clash-album.

I live in Hamburg and bought it on a fleamarket right here. My favorite tune of this set is Trafalgar Square by Pablo Gad, which is a disco mix with a good dub part.
