re-press, re-issue - name those with poor quality

I can't see the point of paying for a repress (or even an original) if the sound is so bad it's unlistenable.Pure waste of money, time & effort.
Even if it's a great tune , why would you pay for music that you can't hear - it's a total rip off, if someone is going to spend the money on repressing a good tune, why not take the time& money to re do the stamper so the public can actually hear the music!!!!
If jamaicans want to listen to crackly vinyl let them, i'm sure most people of what ever nationality would rather hear the music than a whole heap of crackle, off centre music, jumps etc.

yes jj - and of all the problems I find off-centre to be the worst!

Music going in and out of tune and time is harder to bear than pops, crackles and what sounds like chips being fried near the mic.

Not necessarily a JA pressing problem, back in 1976, out of five of us at school who'd bought Bobby Melody's Jah Bring I Joy on Trojan, no ones copy played through without jumping, I eventually got hold of his greatest hits on cd and for the first time was able to hear the vocal and dub without any jumping.

When did you get that record and what country? I have a mid 90's re-issue that is great sounding, My label is yellow w/red,green and H.I.M , You say your label is white,and I never saw that one,

I can speak for Jah Life who is a longtime brethren.I know he has not ever pu out a record or lp that was taken off tape. Many master analogue tapes from late 70's have oxidized and are poor quality. Many tracks have been liscensed to sanctuary(trojan) and the sound quality on many trojan recordings are questionable of source.Some sound like they were mastered off another LP.
I will call Jahlife and describe your record to him,and try and get you a better answer.
One thing , Does your label have image of HIM in field marshall hat or wiyhout hat.Does it say Kaya production?

One really bad press comes to mind, a 7" Creation Steppers-Stormy Night recent re-issue.

Also Fred Locks-Black Starliners 7" re-issue almost every copy is slightly warped.You can play it if you put a quarter on the top of cartridge.

My copy of Gambler's Choice (on Sonic Sounds) has a film of surface noise on Side 1, but plays lovely on Side 2...
