The singer Frankie Jones in general seems to be terribly underrated. He released many albums, I can't seem to find a wrong tone on them, but quite few people know his stuff.

There should be more talk about the early digital DJ's as well,but as most of the attention goes to the big stars such as Johnny Osbourne, Josey Wales, Barrington Levy, a lot of really good artists get out of the scope. Just to mention a few:

Jah Screw: Herb Base Function (Sunset, 1986)
[cover=7124,4715]

Horace Ferguson: Sensi Addict (Ujama, 1985)
[cover=2105,2467]

Peter Metro: The DJ Don (Black Solidarity, 1986)
[cover=6778,4728]

Lord Sassafrass: Poccomania Jump (Black Scorpio, 1985)

I know I'm becoming boring with Keith Hudson, but I think at least these two are criminally underrated:

Also Delroy Washington should be more known:

Fantastic vocalist...

Track five is an absolute killer, the rest is very good. Any one knows if it's easily available on cd? I had this on tape but since I had to change car and now have a CD car-(hi)-fi, I'd need this in another format ;)

Flesh of My Skin.. by Keith Hudson is one of the most hyped records in the whole genre, so it shouldn't be in this thread.
