Lambert Douglas on Rosso

Hi Folks,

This little post is about the quite unknown shoe label, "Rosso" and more precisely about the singles they released for Lambert Douglas.
The "Living Man" LP was released in 1977 and around that time, a few 7" from the album were issued:

Does anyone know if the producer, Clive Francis, released other singles from the "Living Man" set?
As this LP is rarely to be seen anywhere, maybe that all the 10 tunes can be grabbed as 7". Still a long way to go... "So Jah Say", "Living Man, "Inspired" are so meaning full and backed by 77ish inspired Revolutionaries!

I have the "Living Man" album, its a good album but imo not crucial, The backing tracks are good but he has fairly lightweight voice.

Assuming those singles are fairly rare not sure its worth coughing up that sort of money to aquire the album entirely in 7" format.

His voice ain't all that. I've seen a bunch of those 7's around and never once picked one up.

Some times ago, Lambert Douglas' music was discussed on this board, and his voice indeed, didn't make the unanimity.
But his music just grabbed my attention.

Actually his 7" can be seen sometimes around, and the prices for them aren't really high, even quiet low; that's even better for collecting them!

I never saw other one from the LP...

But if the album appears once, I won't hesitate to grab it. It's indeed easier than to find the six remaining singes

I like just about everything about and on this lp, music and vocals work for me but I can understand why it might not hit strong with some.

Got a feeling some of those songs were never released on singles - too bad cause I've always wanted to hear versions of them. Hope I prove to be wrong on this but the ones you mention Les, those are the ones I often see as singles.

which song are you talking about Ites? By chance is it one of the ones he did with Wayne Fire - I'm familiar with 'Sherron' and 'Sweet and Nice' as combos.

I actually bought the Lambert Douglas lp and several of the 80's singles Lambert did directly from the producer Clive Francis. I took a chance one day and called the phone number on the Rosso label and gotta hold of Clive Francis. He was the coolest guy, took care of business real well. Told me he could make me a pair of the Rosso shoes, dang, shoulda done that!

Clive even surprised me one day when I called - he said to me, 'someone wants to talk to you, here's Lambert.'

Next thing I know, I'm talking with Lambert himself!!

Told Lambert how much I loved his music - he was a very humble/appreciative/nice fellow. He asked me if there was any way I could bring him up to the states to do a concert. I told him I was not a promoter, just a fan but would ask around for him. Too bad guys like him aren't more well known to make shows worthwhile, or at least cover the costs.

One day I called the number and it was no longer in service. Too bad, Clive was a pleasure to talk with... always wondered if the shop was/is still there on Rosso Road.

This is a dream I've always had, to call on the number and speak to Lambert himself and ask for a record or his newest Gospel CD after he turned more to christianism...
Acording to the french "Natty Dread" magazine, Clive Francis died on 26th march 1992, from thiefs who were interested in the gun he kept at home.
Lambert is still working in his shoe factory.

It's great to know that somebody abroad made him such a nice feedback on his earlier work. Maybe it's not to late to write him a letter...

nice to have all that info. I also love the Living man LP. I agree the voice is sweet but good. I like it and the riddims are really sounding nice.
