Why do people talk non-stop and so loudly in a roots dance?

You seem to complaint about people not praising Jah or Rastafari... I personnally dont find really roots or conscious when people repeat "Rastafari" after the MC shout "Jah"... I dont think there are as many rastas as people shouting "rastafari"... even if Im not here to judge who are the true rastas, Ive never understood why so many Jamaican artist enjoy that a wide crowd, away from their beliefs, scand "Rastafari"... I understand, feel and share their message, but dont call Rastafari, as Im no rasta.

I can totally see what your saying litelet, but i think the term 'rasta' can be used in many different contexts.

I do agree with you in that if you dont practice the rastafarian faith, chanting ras-tafari would not mean a whole lot to you, but people say it in the whole feel, or in support, of the show or gig your at, but i dont think that everyone really understands what they are saying.

but like i said i think the solo term rasta can be used pretty universally, just like when i call a chick 'dude' im not actually calling her a guy, its just the term im using.

Its a form of unity Jah rasta fari selassie i.and depending how spirital the dance is getting and someone from the crowd can get the crowd going, they say jah cos its a roots dance.I have been at a dance when the tunes finished and the crowd are all saying jah and rasta fari and make a joyfull noise unto JAH in their own time,real unity inna de dance as one.it makes everyone happy.

haha dude/bro reggae huh? is that like people who try and imitate sublime, and think they are heavy roots? i mean dont get me wrong, i used to really enjoy sublime, but i find a lot of people out here way over play them and think that they are the best thng since sliced bread, unfortunatly i have been throughly burned out on them, but people still play their music like they are playing it for the first time, like i went to a friends party and the friend that was spinning started in with a few sublime records and i thought everyone was going mess themselfs over it and i was almost annoyed and wanted to drive home and get MY records and show these people a thing or two...but i digress.

i can dig on what your saying though...becuase i think a lot of people at this party would be the kinda people to go to a roots show to get trashed and not to see the band...

At a reggae roots dance its about roots and jah and if yer nah understand what are you doing at a roots dance then being dudes.
Make a joyful noise unto jah.
Foghorns,whistles,bongos, congos,flutes players of instruments and even banging tin cans is all part of a roots dance that has got lost from its roots and culture.
its like when they go and see Amy Whineyhouse and all the crowd shout rehab rehab and waving their rehab flags & scarfs about at the gig.

Theres a culture clash, not with countries but with the reggae crowd.rasta and dread nah drink alcho pops.

When you get a crowd thats on the medical herb theres never any trouble. peace.
With a London crowd its funny cos the dance floor gets like a swimming pool, all spilling there drinks and making the floor all sticky and your £500 gucci (is that how you spell it i never come across gucci in the ghetto) shoes are getting messed up.and it stops people from dancing. im a great shanker on the dance floor getting the wall huggers on the empty floor.form a simi circle. is that some break dancing.


How about getting waisted on a natural high of JAH music for a change.

There is no harm in getting ANYONE to call the names of God, in any way. Even if they have no faith.

By chanting His names they are fulfilling His wish and they are purifying themselves of there material dirt.

If we can't get them to do it consciously and have to fool them that's still better than no chanting at all. Yeah, they are faking it now but chanting sows the seed of faith and who knows, the seed might even take root in their barren soil.

SO I'd rather hear people shout Jah Rastafari, even if they ain't got no faith in anything spiritual at all, than hear them chatter about nothing all night.

Sublime = California surf punk rockers with reggae influences, made some records about 10 years ago, one of them died, the sort of rock noise anjoyed by my cousin who burned a CD for me, not really my sort of thing, and don't quote on any of this!

So its punk and reggae just like in 1976 with the punks and dreads.a lot of stuff is trying to recreate past music & scenes thats been covered already.My ears need something fresh and new.I think its a generation thing that the dances nowadays aint as good, but the new rules in the uk dont help nothing execpt the drinkers.Smoking ban,db noise levels & sometimes they tell you to stop dancing cos its not the right type of dancing for a roots dance.

Its like when Jah Shaka played, i would select what dance i thought was going to be the better ones, by venue,how much it got promoted(the best ones were word of mouth rather than advertised everywhere)posters that were put up only in the area where the dance was and it was more of a local thing with other people from other areas coming down as well,so i would pick and choose where the most spirital ones was.
and they ended up being the best ones.
Dont get me wrong about dances today,the music a lot of sounds play is great.
