I am going to be in the market for a new cartridge and would like the opinon of fellow roots lovers on which one (or at least which company) is best for listening to this fine music?
Blessings

Re: Cartridges?
You'll get good results using new old stock vintage carts, like Shure. Get them for about 50 bucks on ebay.
For worthwhile new stuff you need very deep pockets. And you probably would do well to look hard at your hi-fi before moving up the cart ladder and spending 100s on carts that your hi-fi can't do justice to. A good phono stage is a place to start. I added a dedicated phono stage to my set up and the step up in quality was amazing, despite the stage being a relatively budget item.

Hi there _Easy_
The better the stylus profile of the needle, the less damage you will do to your precious vinyl ! Spherical tips do a lot of damage to the groove walls,so a good quality elliptical stylus profile is better.Fine line is even better.
Is the cartridge to be used on Technics style deck,or is it in a hi-fi set-up ? If it`s the latter, spend as much as you dare !!!You will reap the benefits of less record wear and a lower noise floor.By this I mean when the needle hits a " pop " it will be over and done with ,sonically,so much quicker ( milliseconds ) so audibly not getting in the way of your listening
.
Also,do you want a moving magnet or a moving coil cartridge ? To ring the last ounce ( or gram ) of detail I use a Transfiguration Aria ( mc ) that cost a fair price, but the amount of detail retrieved is unbelievable.
I totally agree with Leggo about using a good quality phono stage, but just in a domestic hi-fi situation as opposed to a DJ -playing out set-up.
There are numerous sites on the internet to get more detailed info.,check them out.

Re: Cartridges?
I operate a goldring eroica lx (mc, fine line) system. Wired with silver cables through the rb arm. Connected with a silver cable (pseudo-xlr - but cinch) to the pre-amp. Had to save money for this, but it´s worth every single cent.
Using the needle for 5 years now. Checked it under the microscope @ my local analogue shop: it´s still in best condition.
I also use a technics tangential player with a mm system for the ruff JA backyard 7"es. Have to change the needle EVERY YEAR which us even more expensive than the high-end system.
Play on.

Re: Cartridges?
Thanks a lot you guys, such good info!
Yeah, im not going to be playing my DJ card anytime soon, so its just for my own listening pleasure.
Ill look into that phono stage befor i buy a new cart, i know my deck has a built-in preamp, would it be wise to get a power amp?
