Lee Scratch Perry & the Upsetters in Dub 2 CD on Rhino/Creole

Post by Sirnailhead »

I saw a budget CD called Lee Scratch Perry & the Upsetters in Dub. It's a 2 CD set for like $10 and was released by Creole with a Rhino liscence for the US. It came out in 1999 or 2000. One CD is supposed be King Tubby Mixes but the whole thing has next to no info aside from song titles. Does anyone know if this is a repackage, full of "new" dubs, retitled bootleg mixes or what? For the price I'm sort of tempted to get it, but given I've got a couple dozen Lee/Upsetters discs I don't want to find out I've got it all once I've laid down the cash. This is a different release than the similiarly titled CD on Heartbeat (which is pretty smokin). The link below will show you the cover/tracks. Thanx, Sirnailhead

DON`T do it !!!!Apparently there is only one track that Perry MIGHT have had a hand on,but for the most part Scientist showed up in his place." Guiding Star Dub " is allegedly a King Tubby dub.Info. from " Super Scratch - The Almost Complete Album Discography " by Gary Simons ( Thanks Gary ! )

OK...I'm not surprised it's one of those dodgey boots, but how is the actual music? I was able to hear some samples of about a dozen tracks, mostly from the first disc and I was sort of thinking it shounded like Scientist, who I also dig. I clicked on each song title, which cross references all the other CDs a title has been on, then following some titles to another release which usually had the sound samples. Generally I'm not much of a fan of the dub stuff that came out after 1981-2 when it started getting really digital and full of synths. Scientist is the one exception and most of these tracks had enough live band stuff to sound pretty warm, but also had his really expansive use of epic effects. It's probably not up to Wins the World Cup or Vampires, but for the price it might be a nice big fat bass blanket to have on in the background. So, anyone actually heard it or can anyone point me to a BitTorr DL so I can check it out before I decide if it's worth buying? Thanks. Sirnailhead
