There are two different versions of same song from early to mid 80's:
Black Uhuru (W/Jr. Reid)- "Dreadlocks on the mountain" from "Brutal" LP
&
Junior reid (Solo) version called "Chanting" from a Live and learn 12" 1984 and on the LP "Firehouse clash" w/Jr.Reid & don carlos

Classic tune, either version...I really like the 12" Version of JR Solo on L&L, Nice Mixdown!

The single version on Live&Learn is a different mix quite tuffer than the album version (there is a 7" and a 12" both with this ruff mix)... Cause it starts with no bass and then drops all the drums and bass as Jr really gets in... Murder! Im not an early dancehall fanatic but I really love that!

The extended "album" version is not the 12" single mix.

But while the 12" mix is nice as you mention, the different drum sound bugs me. I like the snare sound on the lp but the mix on the single.
Also the rhythm is sweet on the Black Uhuru version on Brutal. But whoever let that horrible, egregious, offensive, base, showboaty metal lead guitar past the firewall onto that track needs to be publicly shamed. RUINS the tune!
