Well..... Mr.Cliff and Reggae, allright.
But dont forget, before that, back in the 60s, he was a big SKA-warrior also!

Love his early stuff, some very good lyrics, and he's still great live even though he's some released lots of poppy stuff since his heyday.

Jimmy Cliff is a Legend. Watch the version of Wanted Man on Jeremy Marre's Roots, Rock , Reggae documetary and then tell me thats pop. He decided to part company with Chris Blackwell to stay true to himself, perhaps not the smartest move in some eyes. But he remains a true rootsman of the highest order. IMO of course!

I've always loved Jimmy, although not at the top of my list, along with BMW's "Catch A Fire"... JC's "Unlimited" and, of course, "The Harder They Come", were among my first [vinyl] reggae LP's back in 1974-1975, and are near & dear to me... Later in the '70's (1978 I think...) saw JC LIVE in Colorado, and it's one of THE BEST live shows I have ever been to.... So to me Jimmy's legacy is entwined in the fabric of roots reggae! And... it was always really sort of apparent that Jimmy was not a Rasta.... NO offense at all to anyone, but (despite the considerable influence & contribution) reggae is not all about Rasta, at least IMO. Anyway. bottom line: I love and respect his music.

Peace & love to all,

TJ
