Prince Douglas-Dub Roots?

Post by Dubs_West »

Hey RA bredrin,

I recently purchased this fantastic album and was so surprised how amazing this dub is! very rootsy:D

It`s such a shame he did not record many albums because he surely had a eye for quality roots dub.

Possibly *the* best Wackies dub set?

I remember when this LP first came out. I wasn't in a position to buy vinyl at the time, too poor. But a good friend purchased it in London and brought the tape round. I lived way out in the country near Glastonbury at the time and we sat smoking in the back garden listening to LP and smoking ganja. The track North of the Border Dub had a haunting quality about it that really gripped me. It was the first Wackies re-issue I purchased (on CD!) when I restarted collecting reggae a just a few years ago. Needless to say I know have the Original pressing on vinyl!

I love this LP and it is an incredible listen from front to back, but I personally don't see these dubs (individually) as even in the top 20 of his catalogue.

Greetings,
I have to say that I cannot understand what is so fantastic about this album. Maybe it's just not my style, but I haven't cared to listen to it but a few times since my purchase. The album is spoken of so highly on this forum that I was really looking forward to it... and then disappointed. Maybe I'll give it another listen or 2 and try to explain what I feel are it's shortcomings. Respect all the same.

Roots,
Jah Chicken

I think perhaps it needs another ear Jah Chicken as it is by anyone's reckoning a good dub LP, and most of us here seem to think it is great.

Of course, there's no problem with going against the flow. This is often the case. For instance: I can't see what everyone gets so excited about with this LP below, which so far after a few listens I still consider rather average:
